Taught at these school for 2 years and with a son attending for a year. As a parent and teacher would NOT recommend. Has gone through many scandals and lack of safety for students. Was forced to sign an NDA on my departure, which says a lot about a school. Thank you for your time and do ask that you research your child’s school, so they may have the best opportunity to grow and succeed in their future.

Great school. Amazing teachers. My son had Mrs. Hernandez and Mrs. Sanchez and they helped my son to the fullest and lots of dedication. When my son started school here he did not know English very well. He had a hard time reading and writing.he was below his average grade. And after his first yr he had improved about a 86% in all subjects. This yr I can say he is doing 100% wonderful that even his reading level is now above his grade level.

I would recommend the school with the caveat that the best experience will be if you are originally from El Paso or have lived here long-term and your daughter is able to attend all the way from 6th grade through 12th. The head principal is incredible. She is professional and passionate and sets a great example. She often writes personal notes of encouragement on every student’s report card. So much is done to meaningfully engage parents! There are a couple of faculty members who are very similar. They know their content; they know classroom management and differentiation tools for working with different kids’ learning and motivation needs, and they know to make their student’s enthusiastic about learning. They also understand the school’s Social and Emotional Learning objectives, and they are great at integrating SEL tools into both one-on-one and class conversations to help their students build social and emotional intelligence. Some of the teachers know their content well while having little to no classroom management skills. These teachers are great IF their students are self-motivated and/or personally connect with the teacher or material well. Some teachers would be disciplined for lack of professionalism in another school district. It seems like they got degrees without any actual instruction in adolescent development or teaching practices. It has at times seemed like they participate in gossip with students under the guise of social emotional learning discussions; students and other faculty have been the target during these conversations. One teacher has communicated things my student about their objections to school administration, stating that they hoped I would raise concerns, all while making it clear that if their name ever came into the conversation, there would be retaliation. With these faculty members, school rules are also very inconsistent: they will only enforce certain rules with certain students or at certain times. Long -time students are shown favoritism. This does not make YWA unique in the district, as I have had experience with faculty members like this in every EPISD school I’ve been involved with. YWA has amazing potential. As already mentioned, there are some wonderful teachers here and the principal has a vision and the character to bring that vision to life. It’s just a young school and based on those problematic faculty members, this school could grow either better or worse.
