4/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI wouldn't recommend this school to my sorst enemy for their children to attend. The display favoritism among the students, I have heard of school employees engaging in arguments with and cursing student. There was even an instance of 2 students, who are sister's in 7th & 8th grades, along with their mother actually jumping on another student and her mother! Neither one of the sister's or their mother was disciplined for the attack, they suffered no consequences while the student whose mother was attacked lost all of her graduation privilege's. They have been allowed to continue with all school activities because the staff sides with these type of individuals. The principal has no control and has no idea how to be a leader! I will be contacting the board of education about the misdeeds of the students and staff at this horrible school. If you value you're children's safety and education then you may want to look into other schools because this school and it's staff is terrible!!Other Review2y ago3 Reviews - Douglass Academy High School

"Normal, as if anyone walking there dog. Enjoying the walk with there companion dog. I don’t think there’s anything not to like about the neighborhood. It’s quiet everyone keeps to themselves and it’s just an overall great little suburb. "

"Not the friendly. Depends if you live on a quiet block you may enjoy living here. But if you’re on a busy block you will have problems with neighbors , police , people walking their dogs and lots of trash . Sometimes it can be a headache. Tent has gotten so high. "

"I grew up in the North Austin area in Chicago. I currently live in South Austin. There is a difference. There is trash everywhere. It is not a very safe area. People hanging out in front of the corner stores. My car got broken into. When I made a police report the cop told me this area is notorious for auto theft and break ins. The pro is that it's close to Oak Park and closer to my job. "

"I lived in the Austin Area for a little over a decade. grew up over there. the distinguishable difference between the south and west sides are the things in surrounding areas. corner stores, fast food, tiny local grocery stores, that kinda thing and they don't come and go nearly as often. Austin has had the same alderman for YEARS, the community is comfy with her. things have certainly changed, the neighborhood ebbs and flows but I've never truly felt uncomfortable. not riding my bike on my block, or walking to and from the train station during my rebellious teen yrs. the people who've been there, have likely been there for YEARS, their families live there too. just recently started becoming a little gentrified. "They should keep a close eye on their kids when they let them go outside to ensure their safety. There are a couple of near by parks to the children and nearby grocery stores to go to. Overall the neighborhood is quiet and majority of the neighbors stay to themselves. "
