NAGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageOur experience at Lake Street Primary School was deeply distressing, largely due to the conduct of the school’s principal, Susan Sanchez-Ramirez.As a parent of a 5-year-old child with disabilities, I expected a school environment grounded in understanding, safety, and appropriate supports. Instead, once I began advocating for my child, the school’s response shifted in ways that felt retaliatory rather than collaborative.Rather than relying on appropriate special education and behavioral supports, Principal Sanchez-Ramirez repeatedly contacted law enforcement regarding my 5-year-old disabled child. She also told him directly, “I’m calling the cops on you.” As a result, my child remains fearful and genuinely believes that police are coming for him. He is only five years old, and the emotional impact of this has been significant and lasting.I also experienced public humiliation by the principal in front of other parents and staff, which was unprofessional and deeply upsetting. No parent should be treated this way for advocating for their child’s needs. After I raised concerns, communication became inconsistent, documentation was delayed or incomplete, and my child was repeatedly removed early from school in ways that were framed as parent-initiated despite being school-directed.Additionally, a report was made to DCFS that was later determined to be unfounded. The timing and circumstances surrounding this added to the distress of an already overwhelming situation.Families of children with disabilities deserve school leadership that is empathetic, trauma-informed, and accountable. Unfortunately, that was not our experience at this school. I hope this review helps other families make informed decisions and encourages greater oversight and improvement.Parent Review6mo ago6 Reviews - Miguel Contreras Learning Complex School

"Busy streets but its good coz business are just around the corner. We are just a few steps from everything. Preschool, elementary middle school and even college are just a few feet from where I live. Grocery stores, restaurants and bakeries are less than 10min walk."

"This neighborhood is absolutely terrible! The homeless people from the parks are moving into the neighborhoods because user they’ve kicked them out of McArthur park and are invading our streets. Making it dangerous! Kids walk through people shooting up meth while a cop car passes by and does nothing! It’s dirty! People poop in your property. People sell drugs freely in the street! It’s ugly and scary "

"High crime area and lots of garbage. People don’t pick up after themselves or their pets. Lots of fireworks go off for no reason in this high fire zone. Blume and Plume, Woon and Gra are really cool spots that have opened up recently that I love in my neighborhood."

"It’s one of the last historical neighbourhoods in LA to not be fully gentrified. It’s still quite lawless with sanitation and social niceties taking the back seat to reality and daily struggles. There is a sense of community but it feels quite divided between the old guard and new rather Central American or not. I’ve lived in Westlake for five years and thusly love and hate the neighborhood yet proud to call it home."
