Davis High is a great school with great teachers. My son is a senior and has had a great experience. Competition is pretty high as the town (Davis) is a small community with a very large University of California campus, and thus is filled with parents who have advanced degrees and very high academic standards. I suspect academically weaker students will feel this, but on the other hand academically talented students will have the opportunity to excel. If your child is not academically strong (or at least average) they may be best served by other alternatives in Davis (Da Vinci High), a private school, or in nearby high schools.

Students who have little issues do fine whereas students with emotional or learning issues struggle. There seems to be no school wide climate plan besides the tired old steps that don’t do much to change bad behavior. The counselor has ideas about making school-wide changes, but she’s not listened to. The principal is friendly but lacks follow through to change systemic problems at her school, (they seem to get swept under the rug). The school community is very week with parents unable to form bonds with other parents in the same classroom. Everything is ‘confidential’ so even getting phone numbers to send invitations to student birthdays and events is extremely difficult. I am very disappointed in this school.

Harper is a terrible school. The education is bad and the staff is horrible. But the sports are good hence why I gave 1 star.
