About this House

Tucked within the storied walls of the Broom Factory Condominiums, Unit 2 offers a refined take on historic living in one of Shockoe Bottom's most recognizable industrial landmarks. Originally built in 1921 for the Richmond Broom Manufacturing Company, this boutique conversion preserves the building's authentic character while delivering a thoughtfully updated residential experience. Situated on the first floor, this one-bedroom, one-bath residence offers an efficient yet gracious layout, where original architectural elements and warm white oak flooring set a timeless foundation. Steel-framed windows invite natural light throughout the space, creating an atmosphere that feels both inviting and quietly sophisticated. The kitchen and bath feature a modern palette of finishes, including quartz countertops, designer lighting, and carefully selected fixtures, complemented by a premium appliance package with a Bertazzoni refrigerator and LG appliances. A full-size washer and dryer and all-new systems add ease to everyday living, seamlessly integrated into the home's historic framework. Residents of the Broom Factory enjoy a collection of well-considered amenities, including secure covered parking, private basement storage, elevator access, bike storage, and a dedicated wash station ideal for pets or outdoor gear. A shared rooftop deck provides elevated views of the James River and Richmond skyline. With riverfront trails, parks, and Shockoe Bottom's vibrant dining and cultural destinations just outside your door, Unit 2 presents a distinctive way to live within one of Richmond's most storied buildings.

"Walking around the fan and looking at all the seasonal wreaths and decorations on beautiful old row houses doesn’t get old. It’s such a pretty neighborhood. From the fan it’s also not too far (~1 mile) to the lakes at Byrd park, which is also a great place to walk your dog. You can also walk to the fan vet! Lots of restaurants are within walking distance too, along with dentists, small parks, coffee shops, museums, and markets. I walk my dog to Carytown from the fan too (~1 mile). Sugar and Twine in Carytown makes dog treats, and many of the stores are dog friendly. There are fun neighborhood events like house tours, a block that closes for Halloween, and an art walk."
  • Katie Lynn
"It’s a beautiful sight to walk around, lots of grass but in pockets. Monument ave is a good strip to run with your dog on grass"
  • Cody Nystrom
"The Halloween is very good in this neighborhood and the neighbors are very friendly. It is also extremely close to the public elementary being one block away"
  • Reshelle Johnson
"The area is full of life in the heart of the fan/ carytown, Vcu, and museum district. It’s safe to say that a lot has changed and it mostly for the better."
  • Y8cdhryfmp
"To everything honestly it’s a good place if you have vehicle or don’t have a vehicle you can catch the bus"
  • Davebenz
"I lived here 7-8 years ago and it was wonderful then. Even better now. So many great restaurants, art galleries, parks and other things to do. And now it is right on a bus line, which is so convenient. And only about 5 blocks to VCU, too. Would love to live there again!"
  • Trulia User
"Location. Location. Location. Wonderful neighborhood with quick and easy access to great restaurants and parks"
  • Trulia User

  • Catelyn S.
"Not a lot of grass for dogs or area to roam. Must take them to the park. It’s a friendly neighborhood to walk dogs though "
  • Michael M.
"Historic Richmond with beautiful large houses. Mostly wealthy people love in this area or recently graduated kids living with friends"
  • Malena L.
"Trick or treating, halloween parade, teacher parades, civic association meetings, election notifications "
  • Ashleymariew99
"Beautiful area. Very welcoming. You can walk anywhere you need to go. Food & shops on nearly every block. "
  • Rachel M.
"Dog park is a short drive away, always people walking dogs and bags around the neighborhood in case you run out. Not many trash cans though and grass is limited unless you’re on the main roads"
  • Becker.household
"to many dog owners don't clean up after their pet, lots of green spaces for them to run around, dog parks, pocket parks. "
  • Endofjourneylilly
"Ultimate walking neighborhood. Peppered with privately owned fabulous businesses.. the Fan takes its holidays very seriously. Absolutely awesome neighborhood. Oh, and huge gardening community!"
  • Donna W.
"Lovely, diverse neighborhood close to museums, parks, VCU and lots of cultural activities. Parents are very involved in the local elementary schools."
  • Francine S.
"This neighborhood is very dog friendly but, there is no dog park within walking distance. It would be nice to have one. "
  • Henry A.
"Dog owners are very common here, so residents don’t pay much attention when your pet slows near their property. All owners here are good about picking up after their pooches, so you aren’t viewed with suspicion. "
  • Jamie T.
"I work from home, but when I did commute there were seldom any issues outside of a random race or festival."
  • michelle c

  • Ashleynlowry
"Halloween on Hanover, Strawberry Festival, various Boulevard festivals, lots of great stuff to do around here!! "
  • Warewolvves
"I walk from Randolph to the fan for work. Sometimes it’s sketchy sometimes not. Sometimes there’s a lot of foot traffic sometimes none. I do like all the different houses and gardens. There are also a lot of sweet alley finds"
