Fantastic teachers, lots of AP and dual Enrollment opportunities, great extracurriculars. The administration is a huge problem. They push a very obvious agenda through mandatory lessons depicting lewd lgbtq parades for example, and they tend to treat and punish students differently based on race. They frequently make issues many would identify as kids being kids into something much more serious and because of this I saw unfair punishments handed down to above average, involved students, some of which seriously impacted lives all while some troublemakers were allowed free reign because of their sexual or racial identity. Administration also had a few instances of getting involved in situations out of school they shouldn’t have, which ultimately caused terrible consequences. The social scene is very cliquey and I saw a lot of examples of Harrassment and bullying against students that administrators turned a blind eye against, in my opinion because these instances weren’t based on racial or sexuality issues. Their disregard for these occurrences destroyed the high school experience of many I know and although they did well academically in school and are succeeding at a secondary schooling level, some left with lasting mental health issues as a result. I also saw instances of the administrations disregard for these issues turn tragic and know many that really suffered as a result. The school is a very very physically safe environment and the facilities are perfectly acceptable. Again, academically I felt very prepared for secondary school as a student here and really enjoyed many teachers, coaches etc. but the admin were at the very least complacent in a lot of major issues for myself and many I know.

KP is a well-rounded school with kind, good-natured, and highly-experienced staff who work hard to improve and adapt every year based on student and parent feedback. Everyone from the principal to the teachers and counselors to the nurse and administrative staff has made a positive impact on my son (and several of his friends, according to him.)They have helped my son through many types of struggles so far. He’s been happier, less stressed, and more successful than ever before. They challenge him in subjects where he excels and provide extra assistance in areas affected by learning disabilities where he needs more help. They’ve helped him navigate social-emotional, executive functioning, and academic issues. The homework and time-management strategies they teach have actually helped. He’s even been able to move into an honors course. The educators and counselors are very practical and seem to understand the various timing differences in kids’ development at this difficult age, and they foster a wide range of learning styles.They also provide tons of free resources and assistance for families struggling through hardship both at school and in their home lives. There are plenty of opportunities for parents to help out or volunteer if they can, but there isn’t a bunch of pressure to give money or tons of unpaid labor to make sure the kids get a quality education and fun experiences.I feel like my feedback has mattered in school issues and changes. I also don’t feel like I have to dedicate 100% of my evenings and weekends to help my son struggle through homework since he gets so much support at school. He gets a lot of work done there, which frees up more home time for personal interests, activities, and friends. Many of the teachers and staff have or previously had their own children in this school district, and it really shows.We specifically came to this school district because we had heard so many great things, though it was a difficult move for us to make. We’re relieved that we made the change and are grateful to be here. This experience has really changed my outlook on my son’s academic future and ability to be a self-sufficient and happy future adult.

A soul crushing experience. Can't even begin to describe the damage done to our youngest daughter--"missed" diagnosis of a math learning disability. Since she tested as a low average on standardized tests, they kept telling us there was nothing wrong. The crazy "Trailblazer" (I like to call it "Failblazer") math curriculum was uniformly despised by teachers and parents. Yet, it continued for a full 10 years until they realized that practice, repetition, and rehearsal were critical for learning math skills. Add to this an obsession--and I mean OBSESSION--around test scores, and no acknowledgement and/or enrichment for superior writing and reading skills and you get the idea. Finally, there was a "red,yellow,green" behavior/discipline approach in which a student would be asked to turn his/her color accordingly. I'd be hard pressed as an adult to do my best work if I had to turn my color from "green" to "yellow" in front of my peers. It didn't change behavior, only served to humiliate. Brother. So glad to be out of there...
