I think that much of the information on this website is very out of date. My son and niece will be graduating in a couple of months and have both been accepted to great colleges. My son scored a 35/36 on his ACT and will be attending the very competitive California Technical school. He is also an Academic All State recipient. A high percentage of their classmates have been taking concurrent college courses since their JR year. When so many are currently taking college classes, I don't understand how the website can find that our students aren't college ready. Of course there are some students that don't perform at the top level, but I strongly believe that the teachers are doing all they can to encourage students from every level to perform to the best of their ability. My son has mentioned that there are a lot of students that never do any homework. They either take a bad grade or try to cram it in while in another class. Parents are always wanting to blame the school and the teachers when their kids aren't successful, but I think it's my job to make sure my kids do their homework and keep up with their assignments. All four of my children graduated at the top of their class and that wouldn't have happened if I let them get away with skipping out on their homework. The older three have also graduated college and gone on to be successful in their careers. The Okemah Public School district apparently offered them what they needed.Mostly, I just want to encourage anyone that is looking for a quality school district to realize that if they are supporting their children and their education, their child will be successful in Okemah. I truly believe that the kids going to our school feel safe and know that their teachers care about them. Maybe the great schools folks will get their information updated about the Okemah Public School district and stop trying to make it look otherwise.
