Hancock School fosters an amazing community within its walls, with all students interacting on a regular basis. The education is on par with that of private school. The class sizes are small and there are many opportunities for parents to be involved. Can not speak highly enough about our experience at this school.

Because we have used these reviews in the past, we are offering our own 5-year out review in the hopes that it helps other parents and students glimpse into the school as we see it. PROS:1. Mt Greylock is a physically beautiful school in a stunning setting, with ample athletic opportunities.2. It's a good fit for the type-A, independent learner.3. Athletes who can hold their own academically will likely thrive here.4. Gym classes are a consistent highlight.5. Administrators and deans are notably thoughtful and sharp.6. The parent community is engaged and genuinely optimistic about education.CONS:1. Greylock invests very little in its students. It spends among the least per pupil in the Berkshires — something the town's budget hawks wear as a badge of honor, but that parents and educators experience as a real and ongoing problem and experience the impact of.2. Classrooms are overcrowded. Some classes have had more students enrolled than there are desks.3. There are no visual or performing arts classes in the middle school — none. This makes Greylock an outlier not just in Berkshire County but in the state. Art offerings are limited at other levels as well.4. There is heavy reliance on screen-based instruction.5. The school has significant ground to cover on DEI.6. If your family isn't wealthy or upper-middle-class, you will notice things others don't: nearly every school function comes with a price tag; fundraising tends to benefit programs and experiences that only well-resourced families can access; team culture is built around the exchange of gifts; and most extracurricular activities carry fees.7. The only languages offered are Spanish, which is overenrolled, and Latin, which is under-enrolled.8. They program and design education for the very gifted and they have isolated support programs for the more challenged students, but there is a big gap of innovation, offering and support for the student that needs support or has an IEP and is on a college track.
