Description

Known as Cranberry Hill, this Queen Ann mansion was built in 1892 for Edward O. & Clara Brown (Merchants State Bank, the paper mill, and more). The grounds boast almost 2 acres of park-like setting in Rhinelander's courthouse district with a 2br 1bath Garden House and 3 car carriage house. The 6500sqft main house features a distinctive cupola with 6 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms and a 3rd floor flat with another bedroom, bathroom and bonus room. There is 2 enclosed sitting porches, 3 outside porches, 3 fireplaces, original wood floors, crown molding, exposed beams, chandelier in dining room, kitchen with butler's pantry and breakfast nook, a maid's staircase & quarters, a main handcrafted staircase, huge windows, and an updated roof, boiler system, & fascia. The home's details display the thought and care architects Lew Porter and Allan Conover put into the Cranberry Hill project (Frank Lloyd Wright was their intern). Zoned R3 use this property as a private residence or a B&B.
This property is off market, which means it's not currently listed for sale or rent on Trulia. This may be different from what's available on other websites or public sources.

  • Davidbeth21476
"Family friendly place. Activities available every season. Safe feeling always. Neighbors helping Neighbors. "
  • Mary
"Recreation in the Northwoods and the beauty and serenity of the area is unsurpassable. Friendly people and low crime."
  • Madison S.
"small town feel with lakes parks & bigger stores but also woods and farms as well. its a great place to raise a family, safe & a blast in the summer! winters are tough though and a definite adjustment when moving here! "
  • Nicole D.
"safe neighborhood for kids and quiet despite it being so close to town. has the small town feel along with being close to stores and shops only a few blocks away. and very close to the school district."
  • Gftrickey
"I live in Rhinelander, but out just enough to be in the country....deer, turkey and bear walking thru the yard, but 5 minutes from Walmart! The best of both worlds!!"
  • 54501
"There is a paper mill in Rhinelander. The mill releases pollution and about once a month I have a serious respiratory event when the air plume drifts towards my residence. The city has very low crime. Pet waste is a problem. Pet owners are not very good at cleaning up after their dogs. The medical facilities are good. There is an organic Food market which just expanded and offers meats, produce etc. which is locally grown. The surface of many streets here are in need of repair and have been patched excessively. The city needs a new water well and other major infrastructure renovations. The city does not allow small businesses to operate from home on the internet even though the State of WI allows it with a sellers permit for $10. All business activity must be in a commercial zone. The city has super services for senior citizens. There is a senior bus, and special low rate for cabs.($3) a ride. There are several senior programs to help the geriatric population remain at home ; Meals on wheels, and recreation at the Senior Center. It is a terrible landscape for biking. There are many steep hills and the bike trails are not trails at all. Bike paths are on busy streets until they reach a park setting. "
