Description

This beautiful brownstone in the Renaissance Revival style was designed by the architect Benjamin Driesler, one of Brooklyn's most successful architects during the turn of the century. The house sits on Maple Street, which is arguably the best block in the landmarked Lefferts Manor Historic District within the Prospect Lefferts Gardens neighborhood, and one of the prettiest blocks in Brooklyn. It is a classic barrel front brownstone with three stories of luxurious living. The house is dripping in original details with original plaster work, wainscoting, carved oak staircase, oak floors, vestibule tile floor, built in bookshelves and closets, dressing vanity in master closet, stained glass and original doors with crystal and brass knobs throughout the house. The parlor floor boasts 10 foot high ceilings and has a 1940s Steinway & Sons upright piano. The top floor of the house has generous 9.5 foot high ceilings. The English basement is full height and has been completely renovated and sound proofed and can double as a media room, music room, play room or an extra bedroom suite for guests with a full bathroom. It also has a full laundry room. The house has been lovingly renovated with all of the woodwork painstakingly restored. The dining room and music room have original built in cabinets and a beautiful original mantel. Pocket doors into the dining room have the original leaded glass. The kitchen has been modernized and has granite and marble countertops and includes a dishwasher, a new Samsung refrigerator and a Frigidaire gas stove. Off of the kitchen is a stunning mature South facing garden that the owners have landscaped with beautiful plants that flower during three seasons. The lavender and roses trellis up the new cedar lattice fence and serve as your own personal retreat harkening Provence in the middle of Brooklyn. The garden is also furnished with a classic teak outdoor dining table and chairs and lounge garden furniture. The house boasts beautiful custom lighting including the brass and alabaster fixtures greeting you when you enter the home and at the top of the staircase on the second floor. There are three large bright bedrooms and with skylights over the staircase and bathroom this house is very sunny and cheery. The upstairs bathroom has been renovated with beautiful calacutta gold marble from Artistic Tile and has the original pedestal sink but a gorgeous modern shower and bathtub all lit by a skylight. Both bathrooms have radiant floor heating. The mechanicals have all been recently updated including the new HVAC system with central air conditioning, deionizer, air filter and humidifier. The house has a brand new roof and two brand new skylights. The house has already been wired for Verizon FiOS. This is one of Brooklyn's hippest up and coming neighborhoods filled with writers, artists and musicians. It is three blocks from the B/Q at the Prospect Park subway station and the Lincoln Road entrance to Prospect Park where Smorgasburg has taken up residence on Sundays from April 3 through October 23, 2016. It is also four blocks from the 2/3 at the Sterling Street subway station. Also three blocks away are the Brooklyn Botanic Gardens, the Prospect Park Carousel, the Prospect Park Zoo, and the brand new LeFrak Center at Lakeside Prospect Park where you can ice skate in the Winter, roller skate in the Spring and Summer and enjoy all the best that Prospect Park has to offer. Finally, the Brooklyn Museum and signature Brooklyn Public Library at Grand Army Plaza are at comfortable walking distance from this home. The house is a short walk to to Midwood Flats, Oaxaca Taqueria, Burger Mexicano, Parkside Pizza, Nagels Bagels, Gratitude Cafe, Tugboat Tea Company among other neighborhood favorites. You are also two short stops on the Shuttle from the Prospect Park subway station from Franklin Avenue the new epicenter of the food movement in Brooklyn with tons of restaurants and bars.

"It is a Decent commute, everything is within 15 minutes to 1 hour. There is a bus on most routes and a way to get to a subway station to be able to get to your destination. When it comes to transportation this borough has the most transportation by far. "

"Good transportation but for the last three weekends the trains have not been running. There is a bus stop which helps but the subway is not always reliable. That is all I have to say. "

"Proximity to all means of transportation bus trains and taxi service, Prospect park facility availability is better hop skip and a jump , traffic is a bit crowded at times everybody busy to go in the same direction nowhere . Proximity to the local hospital kings County about a five minute walk up all three minute drive depending on traffic although also Barclay center is about 10 minutes by bus"
  • Trulia User
"nothing much, we come together and have fun and everyone is security conscious, and we look out for our neighbors at all time "
  • Lareeree
"I’ve lived in this neighborhood directly facing Prospect Park for 12 years. The neighborhood has wonderful attributes with access to the park, Botanical Garden, Zoo, library and museum being very high on the list. Many aspects of the neighborhood have deteriorated as well. The entrance to the park area has crime, homelessness, littering and over crowding in the warmer months. We are leaving this neighborhood after suffering many of these issues. Mainly our dog has become very anxious because of all-night sound and fireworks throughout the summer nights. If you have no dog and no young babies it is worth checking out."
  • Patrick O.
"Difficult to say I don't own a dog, but the proximity to Prospect Park I assume would be a plus for 🐕 owners."
  • Juanluisarias

  • Shantel F.
"I've lived here for 3 years and the area has really grown on me every thing is so close by and convenient. stores, place's to eat, and transportation. "

"I've lived in this area for more then 45 years and I love it here. the community has changed over the years but just so quiet and peaceful here it like living in the suburbs. the park and the beautiful changes you see, all the season's from the first snow fall to the changes of the leaves its so beautiful in my neighborhood. would leave this area for no one.
