it really sucks here would not recommend, i’m a junior rn and it’s awful lowkey

All 3 of my kids attended this school from preschool all the way up until they graduated this school. Right now my youngest is enrolled there. My younger two boys both have special needs, they both have mental and physical, and emotional disabilities. Attendance has always been an issue especially with my 6 year seeing as how he has an autoimmune disease, on top of autism, and some other delays or disorders, I am VERY VERY DISAPPOINTED to say that not only has the personnel at Bushnell been harassing me and threatening me with truancy, but also have sent the police to my house on multiple occasions now, and now, as of today, I guess since my youngest has been out with fevers, sore throat, a horrible cough, on top of an ear infection that keeps him up in tears all night for the last two nights, let me also add that I just called the school and left a message on the attendance line, explaining to them that my entire household of six people have spent the last month taking turns with a terrible illness, I’m guessing the new newest variant of Covid or something I’m not really sure, even with me always being transparent and always letting the school know what’s going on, they still harass me and threaten me with truancy and they still thought it was worth sending the police to my house multiple times, and they took it up a notch and called child protective services on me, and child protective services that they are worried about the well-being of my child! School and the staff at the school have known me for years upon years. They know my family they know that I am a very good mom. I have good kids. And they also know about a lot of the struggles my family has been going through. My big sister just passed away unexpectedly two months ago, which obviously that’s my children’s aunt, not to mention my father, which is their grandpa, went to missing shortly after my sister passed away, and we recently had to file a missing persons report on my kids grandfather. My family has been going through a lot to say the very least. The school knows that my kids are very well taken care of. Yet even with all of this, even with me, trying to work with them and trying to be transparent with them, and explaining everything to them even with me, trying to explain more to them than I should even ever have to, this is how we’re treated! if your family is neurodivergent, or if you have special needs children, don’t send them there! This is all just the TIP of the iceberg! SMH!

Lowell middle school does a wonderful job with orientations of incoming 5th graders. They have mentor programs for girls called STARS and for boys called GEARS. The programs involve 6th graders with 8th graders. Such a positive experience for both of my kids that participated. The parent involvement is outstanding. We just love it here.
