In any small town there are politics involved but this school is worse than most. While some staff members stand out in caring for everyone, the majority care more about your last name and it's not fair, you would think they chose education to be there for ALL children. Every child is a part of our future in some way. Children did not get to choose what family they came from and if they don't have the last names that are all related somehow in the town or parents with lots of money, they are put on the back burner or less play time in sports regardless of skill. These kids sit the bench in sports even when they might be better than kids that never leave the court because they have that "last name" or their parents coach. Baseball is the exception, they have an excellent coach and high school teacher. He truly cares about the kids, all of them. And does not favor names, he plays his best players, no matter who they are to win and that is how high school sports should be. The staff and parents involved in removing him as basketball coach should be ashamed of themselves as parents and humans. I am disgusted at that sort of "professional" behavior and their children have poor examples of parents and leaders. I wonder if CHSAA would approve of how that was handled? The dropout rate for this school cannot be good compared to others in NE Colorado. And the counselor does as little as possible to encourage these kids to stay, her and other staff. Counselors were a huge part of the school and their success when I was growing up, they had a relationship with every student. She wants those she does help to do things her way and only her way. Not what is conducive to their future career goals, they could have more college credits done and spend less time in less useful classes as juniors and seniors if she did some more research. Now with recent events I sure hope this school steps up to the plate in caring, supporting, and checking in on EVERY student. Especially if they show signs of falling behind or being depressed. I hope anyone considering this school in the area does their research and enrolls their children elsewhere.
