"High rate of addiction/criminal drug cases, high amount of registered offenders. Lots of stray cats "
  • Katlynn Ellis
"Very republican and biased on animal leash laws. Stray cats everywhere but dogs owners are given harsh fines and penalties (including death to their animals) when dogs get loose. "
  • Trulia User
"My neighborhood has a lot of residents who own ring lights. The neighbors are a little nosey but it’s for a good cause. "
  • David.carll631
"Murphysboro is a great town, the people are friendly, there is always something to do other than the Apple Fest. Town is surrounded by lakes, hiking trails, and wineries. Murphysboro's bars and restaurants are great, along with coffee shops. We can always use more diversity in our restaurant choices. The town is growing in a positive way and things are happening"
  • Allen
"I lived here and the people are a group of senior citizens and they are particular who lives in the duplexes. Most complain about the landlord and each other. NOT friendly. Too far to walk downtown and no walking distance restaurants. Was happy to move out of that area."
  • David.carll631
"It is a quiet family community with events downtown and with in walking distance of our house. Restaurants, bakeries and bars are all great, most people are friendly."
  • Angela H.
"Our area is a very rural town with a small population. We live in a small downtown neighborhood. You have a 20-40 minute commute to most places."
  • David.carll631
"Great neighborhood, quiet and very relaxing. It is with in walking distance to police dept, post office, Walgreens, restaurants, retail shops, scenic parks, etc. love this area."

"My nieghborhood is quiet and with close access to shopping, everything is within a safe walking distance. Around Murphysboro there is so much to do as far as outdoor activities. It is a GREAT place to live. "
  • David C
"The neighborhood is friendly, peaceful and conveniently located near most areas for shopping. Murphysboro is surrounded by the Great SHAWNEE NATIONAL forest, lakes and wineries."
  • Abigail0125
"Small town everyone knows everyone. Parks close by, nice library, nice ma and pa restaurants, dog parks"
  • Johnnybrotten5
"The schools are great with special needs children. There is quite a bit of family activities here plus a ton of parks. "
  • David c.
"The Apple festival is the only community event there is. other than that our church has multiple events that are well worth going to."
  • Vanillapallid
"I lived in on Dewey St. for 3 years, and while it looks like a nice area, just a street over is a very seedy area that is plainly unsafe for women or children to be in. The park a few blocks away is dangerous year-round. There are consistently robberies in the surrounding neighborhood, and to add insult to injury, the sheer number of dog owners who allow their pets to defecate on the sidewalk and in others' yards is staggering. I even own a dog, and I am disgusted with the dog messes everywhere. There is a housing project down the street in which at least one murder a month occurs. I do not recommend this area for anyone who finds an affordable place elsewhere. The safe parts of this city are scattered and right next to areas that are dangerous even during the day. Otherwise, it has nice curb appeal (a lot of trees) and is really cheap. Barely any restaurants to speak of, except for 17th Street BBQ, which one can drive to from another town. "
