The main bus lines run through the neighborhood on Napa and Mission. I would not recommend walking by yourself at night, but during the day it is generally safe to walk around. There are a few liquor stores and gas stations that are a short walk away. Nice bars and thrift stores on nearby Sprague. It has been gentrified over the past 5 years or so and has continued to improve. However, this means rent is increasing quickly..."
