7/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI rated the security/safety so low only because they do not have any parameters to make sure the students aren't bringing in weapons. I would offer a higher rating if the teaching staff were higher. The school district has a very diverse group of students; from White to African American, LatinX, and some Asian ethnicities. However, the teaching staff is entirely all white, with one Black Female teacher and a Latin Teacher who doesn't teach Spanish. It is so unfortunate that the school is so diverse but the teaching staff do not represent the diversity in their staff. Students of color need to see themselves in professional, upwardly mobile roles in order to believe in they can make it and become somebody. If they only see white people in professional roles then they begin to diminish their self-belief. There have been 2 black males the students have been exposed to over the years and one of them was a janitor. The maintenance worker serves an integral role in schools, however, African Americans can do more than that.Additionally, some of the staff can't relate to the students and vice versa. Teaching an African American male is different than teaching any other type of student, and that has been studied and factually founded. African American females need to relate to someone as they are becoming women in this world of white supremacy. Lastly, this school district needs to begin doing some work around social justice and having some important "Courageous Conversations," specifically in terms of why they won't hire people of color, namely black people, especially since approximately 40% of their student body is Black.Parent Review2y ago3 Reviews - Bates Elementary School

8/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageHonestly, the woodhaven school district has been a huge disappointment over the years. I can't fathom why they are paying anyone in any of those buildings....Because I have yet to see someone other than a select very few teachers. actually do their job. Kids almost getting hit in the parking lot.... Biased treatment... Principal won't return an email or phone. Call the counselor won't return an email or a phone call. I can't speak for the other counselors, but whoever does" a" through" g".... I don't even know what that woman is getting paid for. Don't even bother trying to call the superintendent. Because he has the snottiest receptionist ...( honestly, I just hung up after hearing her garbage attitude.) let alone a simple email. I'm honestly embarrassed for this entire district. The amount of money they've spent in the wrong areas. The complete lack of morality within the district.... Lack of student resources.... What limited resources they do have..... Aren't actual resources.... asking for resources or anything additional that might help your child move in the right direction academically is a joke because they will call it" help " or "homework help" .... But it's just an empty classroom at the end of the day with no teacher attended. ....sooo i'm not not sure what help they are referring to. That's pathetic. They have teachers in there and aides who have had very questionable and irresponsible lifestyles bringing an unbecoming mentality to the school. They will literally hire anybody... So if you need a job and are actually a decent human being with a little bit of pride, you should apply, they need the help really bad. I've had teachers tell me that most of their students just sleep through class and that is not their problem... That kids come in and she doesn't care what they do; she gets " paid either way " For a district that takes such pride and gets so much credibility. It really is a big joke and as a parent I'm deeply disappointed for not researching this district better. The middle school was nothing but fights and brawls out in the parking lot... Kids selling vapes in the bathrooms... I was hoping when they got out of that middle school that the high school would be a little bit better. I'm equally as disappointed. Just such a shame.Parent Review4w ago10 Reviews - Brownstown Middle School

7/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageBMS provides so many options for my student. Advanced classes, sports, clubs, and tutoring as needed. The school is clean and has been updated over the last 2 years. They are now switch to be a 7-8 building while the other middle school will become a 5-6 elementary. WHS will now be a true High School as a 9-12 building. Teachers and administrators work with family’s to help all students.Parent Review2y ago4 Reviews - Check out schools near 200024 Syracuse Ave.

"Country living with wildlife, suburban shopping and food. Detroit, Southfield and Ann Arbor all within a 45 min drive. Plus generally the sun is behind me and not in my face to and from work. :)"

"I live near Brownstown in Rockwood MI, I feel the area is pretty nice and small town like. You can walk frequently down the side walk and for the most part the first thought that pops into your head isn't that you are going to get shot or mugged. For the most part the general area, Brownstown, Woodhaven, Gibraltar, and etc are peaceful. "
