About this House

Rare opportunity to live in one of the most spectacular historical properties in Western Loudoun! Sited on a prime corner lot in the heart of the quaint town of Round Hill, this stunning property is a private enclave offering 3 separate live/work/entertain spaces, including a stone 3br/2.5ba house, a charming guest cottage and a detached carriage house. Stone walls and white picket fence surround the manicured park-like yard featuring extensive professional landscaping with stone patios, pathways and walls, manicured lawn, abundant flowering shrubs & perennials, and planters/yard ornaments (some convey).
Enter the property from the 2-car paver parking area through a lovely gatehouse (a creatively restored outhouse!) adorned with custom iron gate & cherubs representing 4 seasons.
* The main residence, a magical stone colonial home circa 1851, is the 2nd oldest building in Round Hill; it once served as the town's general store and post office. Exuding history and charm, the home was fully restored and updated in 2009, taking utmost care to preserve its historical character. The attention to detail in the $400K high-end restoration was so thoughtful and unique that it was featured in the Loudoun Times & Washington Examiner. All custom window treatments convey, as do all the carefully selected lighting fixtures, many are rare vintage pieces.
* The home's main level has excellent flow for entertaining. From the front door, invite guests into a lovely library/parlor with built-ins; the living room with a functional wood-burning floor-to-ceiling stone fireplace with hand-hewn oak beam mantel; a powder room with closet; and formal dining room, all with oak hardwood floors. The stunning chef's kitchen features 10-ft. beamed ceiling, refinished original pine floors, and fabulous custom stone/oak beam enclosure for the professional range hood & Heartland Legend range 6-burner gas cooktop/electric oven. A peninsula provides ample bar-style seating. Custom cabinets designed to look like furniture, countertops made from soapstone and century-old walnut, custom-built oak armoire/coat closet, custom-built hutch with glass-front cabinets, porcelain farm sink, copper bar sink, and built-in wine rack make this kitchen a chef's dream!
* The 2nd level has a large master bedroom w/beamed ceiling & 2 closets with full-length mirrored doors; a 2nd bedroom with 2 closets and columns repurposed from the guest cottage renovation; and large bathroom with radiant heat floors, natural stone tile, and a gorgeous custom vanity with granite countertop.
* 3rd level is multifunctional as a bedroom, den or office, with a full bathroom, large closet, and built-ins.
* Partially finished basement has laundry room with washer & dryer (new in 2015), and utility sink. Basement has built-ins, 2 closets, plenty of storage, extra refrigerator (conveys), and bulkhead door to outside.
* The separate 100+ year-old cottage, originally a cobbler shop, had an award-winning ($100K) renovation/restoration in 2001, and is currently used as a cozy 1BR/1BA space for guests. It features a stone porch with porch swing, main room with original wood floors and functional wood-burning fireplace, and large bathroom with stone floor and bathtub/shower with custom design tiles. Could be used as a guest cottage, in-law suite, or an office.
* The 900+sf 2-story carriage house has original knotty pine paneling throughout. Otherwise unfinished, it is currently used for storage but offers many renovation possibilities, including use as a 2nd residence.
* All structures on the property have slate roofs, the main home has copper gutters/downspouts (5-year roof/gutter maintenance May 2022).

"Most folks work in Fairfax/Reston/Alexandria sort of “real” NOVA area, so commute is sort of rough. Traffic is rough because of construction but where they’ve completed it congestion is much better. Working in Leesburg or Purcellville is easy and commute is good."
  • Aadunbar86
"There are always families walking their dogs in the neighborhood. It seems like everyone has a dog or kids or both. "
  • Jane Z.
"You see dog walkers all the time, 95% of the neighborhood has lovely, well maintained walkways. In the Villages of Round Hill they have dog waste stations with bins and extra baggies. Lots of places around the Villages also have them."
  • bob
"It’s a golf community and country club. Not many community events besides dinner specials at the tavern. "
  • Trulia User
"Round Hill is an amazing family-oriented area to live. It has a small town feel, but you are within close proximity to shopping, wineries, and many amenities that make Northern VA great!"
  • Mccartyx4
"The lots are all 3 acres or more so lots of room for dogs to run and play in your yard. There are a lot of dogs but I only see a few people walking their dogs. There is a lot of places to walk your dogs and there is also some trails in the woods to walk on as well "
  • Bhudson20032000
"This area is over-hyped and too far from Washington D.C. for executives - we already work long hours and commuting to Round Hill would drive anyone insane."
  • daryagurl
"I live in round hill, right across the street from this house. There are no sidewalks, but you really do not need them. The road is full of kids, and they always play together. It is about a 3 minute drive from purcellville, which has a few shops and resturants . The road is very safe, and it is a dead end road. You dont drive up the road to get to a different place. The road is like its own neighborhood!"
  • Edwin b.
"This location is well hidden off of Hwy 7 and offers the Blue Ridge Mountains as a back drop. It requires driving through 1 - 3 miles of gravel road to arrive to this location off of Scottland Heights Road or Williams Gap Road. Then it will continue on to a paved road. Once there the scenery is wonderful and a very tranquil place to live. The dear, hawks, raccoons, foxes and ground hogs are abundant. It truly feels as if you are secluded from everyone as the average lot size is 4-5 acres and you are approximately 500 feet above sea level. The views are great and if you enjoy long walks, bike rides or hiking this is the place for you. The town of Purcellville is 10 min by car and Leesburg is 25 min by car as well. I can’t say enough about this hidden gem on the outskirts of historic Round Hill in Loudon County. Really enjoy being here!"
  • Mary K. C.
"Round Hill is friendly, quaint and beautiful. Close to everything, but far enough away to enjoy small town living with all the amenities."
