The challenge of educating today's students to compete with a global workforce is not an easy one, but it would seem Decatur High School is up to the task. Jeff Kawaski has been a loyal and dedicated pillar of the community. The teachers and coaches did a great job preparing my children for college, and they have excelled. I have nephews and nieces in Florida and its quite amazing to see the difference in preparedness when it comes to performing at the collegiate level. They attend the same university and its almost as if they were taught on two different planets. All schools have their weak areas as well, and it DHS is no exception. To go along with the great athletic facilities, it would be beneficial to see a more modernized science and technology lab to enhance the skills needed to excel in tomorrow's workplace. The same goes for mathematics. I don't know if the shop is still there, but I'll wager its been awhile since any manufacturing has been needed in the area.

My step daughter started here in kindergarten and is now in 2nd grade. The teachers are wonderful and very supportive to her needs. She gets home from school and works on her assignments. She is reading now and is always expanding her vocabulary. I am proud to say this school still says the pledge of allegiance. And, the school sends homework home for the summer break so the children maintain what they ve learned.
