10/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageWe had to remove our child from this school due to how poorly they handled his disability. And to be clear, I’m not talking about behavior issues—he has always been a great student, well-respected by both peers and teachers. Unfortunately, the school ignored his services and repeatedly punished him for things related to his disability, such as forgetting papers or pencils. It escalated to the point where they excluded him from both his 8th grade graduation and field day.The principal is the root of the problem and ignores concerns, while the school board also dismissed my calls. If I had the resources for a lawyer, I would have pursued this further. Please think twice before sending your child here, especially if they have an IEP. They will not get the proper services or support they are legally entitled to.Parent Review8mo ago11 Reviews - Waccamaw High School

8/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageThis school has been extremely disappointing. The quality of teaching is poor, and many teachers appear disengaged and are often not actively instructing students. The administrative staff is similarly ineffective, frequently delaying important tasks until the last minute and requiring repeated follow-ups before any action is taken. The school’s handling of emergencies is especially concerning. Staff members are often unresponsive when contacted and have been observed continuing conversations with colleagues instead of addressing urgent situations. Additionally, basic hygiene standards are neglected; bathrooms frequently lack soap, and hand sanitizer dispensers are consistently empty, creating unsanitary conditions.Dr. Hammel, the principal, consistently avoids accountability and fails to follow through on responsibilities. Promised callbacks are rarely made. Overall, staff members treat students in a condescending manner, as though they are much younger, creating an environment that feels overly restrictive rather than supportive. Instead of preparing students for adulthood, the school fosters immaturity. The management of IEPs is also deeply flawed. Meetings lack clear explanations, and important accommodation documents are frequently misplaced. This disorganization has caused significant distress for my child and reflects a serious failure to meet students’ needs. This school has had a serious negative impact on my daughter’s mental health, with stress levels so high that she frequently feels close to passing out. The school store sold energy drinks to students, which directly contributed to my daughter experiencing a medical emergency that resulted in hospitalization. These ongoing issues reflect a troubling lack of concern for student well-being and safety.Parent Review4mo ago5 Reviews - Waccamaw Intermediate School
