8/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI don’t like how few black teachers there are at this school. This is a huge issue with Greenville County Schools. Most of the teachers here are white women and men. That was something that really disturbed me the second I saw the teaching staff, front office staff, and guidance counselors. In fact, that is the absolute worst thing about this school. That alone made me give this school an F rating. It affects a child mentally, physically, and emotionally when there’s not any representation of them in the teaching staff, but I’m sure they are intentionally doing that in the hiring practices. This is something they have done for years to break the spirits of our children. I also do not like how my student was put in a class with no other children that looked like her. With a particular groups dark violent, and hateful history of mistreating our children, our children are not safe in that type of environment. This school needs to hire more Black teachers (English, Math, Science), and staff throughout. The energy when you walk in this school is so bad! Even with music playing it’s just an extremely dark and bad energy while walking through these people. It is entirely too many white female teachers here. I think that is why all of the kids look so doom, gloom, depressed and drained at this school because it's something special that a black educator brings. One being that they treat everyone the same, and uplift everyone's children. That is something white educators are incapable of doing because of their deep seated hate. When you put your child in this type of environment, it has a lasting negative effect on them into adulthood. Something I've noticed from working in the schools across the country, is the difference in the attitude of black children prior to them starting, and when they finish school. They become extremely depressed when they are in an environment with predominately white children, which is expected. I would be too. I've also noticed when working in a school with majority black educators, how incredibly high the morale was, how excited the kids of all groups were, nearly everyone had perfect attendance, and you could see the joy and enthusiasm on their faces to learn. I never saw that at Eastside. I would bet the attendance is real bad here. Everyone walks in and out, looking so overwhelmed, frustrated, tired, and ready to leave. They need to make some serious changes in the staff at this school, and across Greenville County as a whole.Parent Review7mo ago10 Reviews - Northwood Middle School
