6/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageThe staff at this school treated me like family. My childrens teachers did also. The communication between school and teacher and parents was outstanding. I saw my children exceed my expectations as far as their learning. We transferred mid school year. The teachers welcomed them with open arms. I highly recommend this school.Parent Review11mo ago3 Reviews - West Craven Middle

4/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageThe environment at this school is becoming increasingly untenable for students. We are constantly dealing with a lack of pedagogical stability because so many teachers are either brand-new or quit halfway through the year. This 'revolving door' of staff means there is almost no consistent discipline or authority in the building.Because the administration can't keep experienced teachers, the student culture has devolved into something really hostile. There is a pervasive amount of homophobia and transphobia in the halls that goes almost entirely unchecked. It’s common to hear discriminatory slurs and targeted harassment, but since the staff is always changing, nobody is held accountable. It is extremely difficult to focus on my education when the social climate is this bigoted and the leadership is this fragmented. A school shouldn't feel like a place where you have to worry about your identity being attacked just because the adults in charge can’t maintain a stable environment.Student Review1mo ago9 Reviews - West Craven High

2/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageStay far away from this school. Your kids are not safe. Bullying is swept under the rug, the staff protects the bullies. The staff tells lies and cover up and protect certain students. There’s something suspicious going on at this school and it won’t be long before it’s exposed.Parent Review3y ago5 Reviews - Check out schools near 1st Ave.

"Always an event downtown on the water. Great for kids and adults and perfect for meeting people. Great restaurants and bars to go to after these events. Just an all around solid town. "

"I’ve lived in this neighborhood for 5 years I love it. Very convenient to everything here in New Bern as well as close to the exit to go to cherry point or Kinston. There are many stores and restaurants in this area and crime rate is very low."

"It’s a small town with a lot of things to do: shopping, dining out, water activities (boating, fishing, etc.) live music, theaters, museums, etc. The city offers many free activities through its Parks and Recreation Department. Neighbors are friendly and life is peaceful. "

"We have a great neighborhood made up of neighbors who care. During the hurricane people who stayed walked around to watch and check on other people’s houses, organized support to help clean up homes and yards, and kept neighbors informed of opportunities for support or assistance. Just a safe, friendly, supportive neighborhood to live in! "

"Great family oriented place to live. Owners even hand deliver Birthday cards to your appartment. Neighbors also keep an eye on each other when possible. All kids I have met have been very polite and respectful and very well behaved."
