About this House

The Justus Welles Griswold House, Circa 1799.
Prior to its current owners, this exceptional property had been owned by only the Griswold family. Located in the heart of Griswoldville, it was the original farmhouse and generations of the Griswold/Willard family. They also developed and owned the nationally renowned Comstock Ferre Seed Company, the first known seed company in America.
Evidence suggests this brick structure was built in the early 1800s in the Federal Style as a "center hall" Colonial. Around 1870 Justus Welles Griswold, grandson of the builder, "modernized" the building in the Italianate style. The current owners beautifully renovated the roof system and cornice work again in 2016.
The interior remains true to the mid-19th century with elements like the main and rear staircases, fireplace mantels, door hardware and interior trim. The kitchen and bathrooms are "modern" but not contemporary. The rooms of the main house have large "2 over 2" Victorian period windows which bathe the interior in amazing light.
The exterior includes lovely front and side porches surrounded by landscaped gardens and lawns running out to the vintage picket fence. The property has a feeling of privacy and that traditional New England lifestyle.
Includes approximately 1,000 square feet of additional unfinished space above the kitchen and garage.

Wethersfield is too close to city of Hartford. Fun places go shopping in Newington or Glastonbury. Food are pretty good thank you. "
