Description

Experience the quintessential Berkeley lifestyle in this stunning Victorian "Golden Duplex," perfectly situated with a 98 Walk Score near UC Berkeley, Trader Joe’s, BART, and world-class dining. The building is being delivered completely vacant, offering an exceptional opportunity for multigenerational living, the chance to live in one unit while collecting premium rent from the other, or to utilize the entire structure as a grand single-family compound. Rich in architectural character, the home showcases exquisite Victorian details and timeless charm throughout. The upper unit exudes this historic soul with three bedrooms, one bathroom, original hardwood floors, vintage light fixtures, a private deck, and a roomy attic with incredible expansion potential. The lower unit features new white oak engineered hardwood floors and double-pane windows. Currently a spacious two-bedroom, two-bathroom unit, it can easily be converted back to its original three-bedroom layout. Highlighting the indoor-outdoor flow, the lower unit features two sets of French doors that open beautifully to the wooden deck and patio. This level is also thoughtfully updated for accessibility with front and rear ramps and a primary bedroom boasting an ADA-compliant ensuite shower, all supported by a modern solar system with battery backup and a dedicated separate laundry room. Set on a deep, oversized lot featuring a large patio, fruit trees, and a grapevine, the property includes a roughly 500 sq. ft detached garage with heating and insulation—ideal for a home office or potential future ADU conversion. This is a rare, high-upside investment with unmatched flexibility and classic East Bay character. BESO score 7.

"South Berkeley is a transitioning neighborhood as most places around America there is gentrification going on. Berkeley overall is a good place to live with good schools"
  • Joiyao
"I used to live here and the neighborhood is nice to live and work in. They are really cleaning things up "
  • walzer
"Walk to entertainment, supermarket and transportation. Includes detached 500 sq ft. art studio"
  • Rie Y.
"This is a fairly quiet street, with some foot and car traffic since it connects to Sacramento Street and University Ave. But it's much more neighborhood-oriented than it seems, and close to daycare/dog park/cafe/bakery."
  • mysolosusan
"I live almost on the corner of Bancroft and Roosevelt, and have lived in central Berkeley for two straight decades now. It's a great neighborhood - I see there's supposed to be a bit higher crime not far from here, but in all these years I've seen only one crime - a mugging wherein a Berkeley high graduate about 19 years old, tried to steal an earbud for a cell phone from a high school girl. He didn't get the earbud and the police caught him and a couple others with the minimum of fuss. That's it, although I've heard of a couple other small crimes more toward university. To live here is to feel very safe, and really be in walking distance to UC, and all kinds of shops, restaurants and so on. The little tot parks are real nice, especially the one on Roosevelt, and walking is very enjoyable due to all the lovely landscaping done in this area around private homes. Neighbors are great. I love living here except for having to get a parking permit - which is cheap and easy to do really."
