Isn't the worst.I'm a former student and didn't have the worst time at East Coweta, but there are moments that raise my concern.There was a moment with Lanave, an assistant principal—we ran into each other as I headed to the front office + she asked me where I was headed to, and I, with my teacher's permission, told her that I was headed to the front office to get a checkout note for the day. The conversation should've been left at that—I figure she believed that I was ditching class, so she decided to follow me to the front office and acted like she thought I was lost. I get that she was only doing her job, but acting on the presumption that I was ditching and following me around like a douce was not the way to handle things—that situation left a sour taste in my mouth.

As a student that used to attend, I will say, the staff were unkind, and the vice principal was very rude and never gave the children a chance to speak whenever they were called to the office. The 6th grade hall counselor was awful. She never listened, was very rude, always interrupted. Went in there with an anxiety attack and she said “you have nothing to be anxious about, so why are you having an anxiety attack?” Constant bullying and nothing being done to stop it, gun threats at least twice a year, children fighting each other or physically harming each other, kids emotionally harming each other. Many kids with depression. Racism between students. Teachers being passive aggressive. The Janitors were very kind to everyone, however, the school was pretty dirty at times. However it was only about 4 janitors at that big school, so they were trying their best.

We live close to the school, it's in our district. It is NOT balanced. We have 2 kids in this school and are highly disappointed in their discipline program. The kids have more than 1 teacher, very different than what we are used to. When the students have issues between themselves, it doesn't translate. My child was put as a partner with a kid who has repeatedly bullied my child and though the teachers are nice - they are "done" with these issues. It's not the teachers job to "parent" the kids, but it's the parents sending their kids to school that need to parent their kids. The teachers are constantly disrupted, having to deal with piddly little social issues that the kids have to escalate to shouting matches and curse words. The parents send their sick kids to school... without a care! My other child has been "exposed 3 times" over the course of 4 weeks ... come on! Each time, I get the call. The quality of the school reflects in the students they have and as Mr. Brown is excellent dealing with and understanding children, they cannot control the "class" of student that attends their school. This will be our last year at Welch, as I'll be enrolling our children in a Charter or Private school next year. Bullying is happening in the higher grades, kids with poor upbringing are dragging this school down.
