2/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageThe school-each year-is constantly opening new and interactive connection classes for students. Teachers are very supportive about getting students to learn and are always making connections with parents to help improve academic performance in class (e.g. emails, phone calls)Student Review11mo ago7 Reviews - Pickens County High School

7/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageThis is probably one of the worst schools in Georgia. As a former student, I’m speaking from experience and begging you not to send your kids to the Pickens County school system. The standards they hold their students to are an absolute disgrace to the public education system. They offer little to no AP/Honors classes. They don't encourage students to push themselves, and they give up on students who need the most help. There is very little college preparation other than the run-of-the-mill counselor's appointments just to make sure kids aren't failing their classes. There is a small group of students who are also the star athletes of the school, they choose this clique to promote all of their extra recognition programs. There are very few good teachers within this high school. And the good ones that are left are all starting to retire/leave this horrendous school. It's seriously gone downhill in the past 5 years as well. They have had a new principal every year for the past 4 years because it's so out of control at this school that no one wants to be in charge. The new principal, Matt Combs, is not even from Georgia or the southern US, so he is very out of touch with the community and the school environment. None of the principals will communicate with parents unless the staff member knows they are in a situation that they can get in trouble for. The assistant principal, Wendy Arnold is known for harassing and bullying students. The rest of the administration/staff will pick on students they consider to be "trouble" and make their lives a living hell. There are very few fun activities and extracurriculars outside of sports, and all of the school's funding is allocated to their mediocre sports programs. I find this important to mention because everyone deserves a pleasant high school experience and PHS is not the place to find that. On top of all of these negatives, this is an extremely unsafe school to send your kids to. From bomb threats every week, to kids doing drugs in the bathrooms. This school has it all. The drug epidemic at this school is a real problem and your kids will witness this if you choose to send them there. There are fights constantly, in the halls, in classrooms, on the busses, they are every. Young people are not prepared for adult life or the future at all. I am begging, for the sake of your children's future, don't send your kids to PHSOther Review1y ago6 Reviews - Jasper Middle School

4/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageMy daughter is in first grade and we have had a wonderful experience so far. I am also involved, I believe that makes a difference in how you feel about your experience. I wanted to get to know the teachers and staff. I feel like I am a part of the the Tiger family.Parent Review10y ago1 Reviews - Harmony Elementary School

5/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageMy child is a student at Harmony Elementary School. Most of the staff and teachers I've encountered are rude, unfriendly, and miserable. The principal is terrible. The curriculum is so incredibly below par, that my child who is now in 2nd grade is still doing classwork he did in Kindergarten at his previous school. There is no homework or challenging classwork. The focus at this school is to cater to economically and/or academically disadvantaged children, which is fine, but it is at the expense of children who are not economically and/or academically disadvantaged. In other words, at HES all children have to be the same on every level. In the long run, this liberal ideology will do more harm than good for these children. I normally don't leave reviews, but my husband and I used the Great Schools website to do our research on Pickens County Schools & HES. If we'd known what we do now about Harmony Elementary School we would have never purchased our home in this school district. To ensure our children receive a successful education, we'll be putting our new home on the market next Spring and leaving Pickens County.Parent Review11y ago8 Reviews - Check out schools near 1802 Little Ave.

"I have no commute. My husband and I are both retired. We enjoy both privacy and a sense of community living here. The breathtaking views, the trails and the wildlife are more than we’ve ever wanted. We feel so blessed to be able to live here."

"I am 10 minutes from work. One set of lights. No traffic and far from Atlanta. Glad not be near a busy city anymore. We moved here from a busy city and don’t plan to leave until this one gets busy. "

"My commute has little traffic except during school transit hours. Many roads are 2 lanes which can back up traffic at times. My work is very close and I live walking distance to downtown. "

"I think Jasper should have more recreational 4 do you and young adults. we have the parts the festivals and Senior centers but for the younger age this place has some work to do. I believe Jasper would do well with a skatepark for skaters, bicyclist and rollerbladers. for the kids and teenagers who aren't into sports. not everyone can be in two sports nor be good at them. it's just another option for them instead of taking the wrong road in life. the whole town needs to stay active. "I don’t commute. I’m retired. You’d really need a car to commute from my neighborhood. There is no mass transit for miles."

"We are known as the First Mountain City because we are at the beginning of the Appalachian mountains. beautiful views and waterfalls are in the area. Jasper has the small town feel but we can get downtown in a little over an hour. "

"The community of Bent Tree is very desirable with a champion golf course, a 110 acre lake, two pools, tennis courts in and outside, two club houses and riding stables to board or rent horses. Many activities are planned and the people are so friendly. Of course if you choose to stay quiet you are in a safe and peaceful place with front gate security."
