With 3 children, one already graduated from Thomas Dale, I can confidently say each individual student’s experience at Thomas Dale will directly reflect the choices that student makes - who they choose to be friends with, how much they choose to study, how engaged they choose to be. Thomas Dale has been a great place for my children to learn this important fact of life and everything they need to be successful is there if they choose to seek it out.

My daughter transferred to EDMS as an eighth grader after several years at a private Christian school. We were apprehensive at first because of how small her previous school was, and we were worried about her being targeted by peers or ignored by staff. The opposite was true. She was welcomed by teachers and staff alike, and quickly made friends, joined groups, and even starred in the school musical. We have been impressed by EDMS in every way. The principal's leadership trickles down from the top! The staff is always receptive and easy to talk to. The teachers keep in touch with parents and answer questions in a timely and polite manner. The students seem to enjoy their time at EDMS as well! We are happy we made the switch and only wish our daughter could've attended all three years of middle school!

We have grown increasingly disappointed in the lack of meaningful communication and academic partnership between this school and its families. What began as minor frustrations has worsened each year.Our most consistent struggle has been getting basic information about our child's academic progress. Communications to teachers are not always answered, and there are few reliable channels for parents to stay informed about what students are learning. When those channels fail, parents are left completely in the dark with no clear path forward. We have not felt treated as partners in our child's education, and advocating for academic support has required persistent effort with little response which can be discouraging for any parent trying to be actively involved.We've also noticed that an intense focus on standardized testing has come at a cost. Assignments feel rushed, and our child hasn't always developed a thorough or lasting understanding of the material being covered.Beyond academics, the overall environment does not feel positive or supportive. There is a heavy emphasis on punishment with little visible warmth or positivity that you would expect to see at an elementary school, which has been disappointing.Speaking with other parents, these concerns appear to be widespread rather than isolated. Prospective parents should come prepared to be persistent advocates, document their communications, and plan to heavily supplement learning at home.
