I strongly do not recommend Greenacres Elementary or Central Valley School District based on my family’s experiences over the past two years. I have worked with and had children attend multiple school districts, and I have never experienced this level of defensiveness, hostility, lack of collaboration, and disregard for parent concerns.I repeatedly raised concerns involving bullying, student safety, food quality, inappropriate content, special education, staff conduct, discipline, and administration. In my experience, concerns were often minimized instead of meaningfully addressed. I have personally attended my children’s lunches and found expired milk and food I did not consider acceptable. My children have also repeatedly reported moldy milk or food, even after concerns were brought to staff attention. Students have also been exposed to songs/content I found inappropriate for elementary-age children.Bullying has been a major concern. In my experience, bullying behavior is often tolerated or inadequately disciplined, while children who react to ongoing mistreatment can end up treated as the problem.My child has an IEP, and during multiple meetings I requested additional supports related to her needs. Those requests were repeatedly denied. Rather than feeling like part of a collaborative team, I often felt that advocating for my child resulted in increased hostility, defensiveness, and what I believe was retaliation.I have filed complaints, requested records and video, communicated with district administration, and dealt with situations involving law enforcement. There have been times when records or video I later obtained did not appear consistent with what I had originally been told. I also have little confidence in serious complaints being handled primarily through the district’s own internal review process.Other parents have reached out to me with similar concerns after seeing me advocate for my children. No school is perfect, but what matters is how concerns are handled. In my experience, Central Valley School District too often becomes defensive instead of working collaboratively with families.I strongly encourage parents considering this district, especially Greenacres Elementary, to research carefully, ask questions, attend lunches, request records when necessary, and document everything.
