10/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageWent in the school in February for my son’s IEP meeting. The principal brought my disabled son down to the meeting mid way through and told my disabled child that it was time for him to man up…… I’ve been waiting since February for the school year to end so I felt confident in his care having to leave him in the school while working out home school program best suited for him. She is an absolute terrible principal. I haven’t slept much since and so grateful my baby never has to enter that building again.Parent Review3w ago12 Reviews - Waccamaw High School

8/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageThis school has been extremely disappointing. The quality of teaching is poor, and many teachers appear disengaged and are often not actively instructing students. The administrative staff is similarly ineffective, frequently delaying important tasks until the last minute and requiring repeated follow-ups before any action is taken. The school’s handling of emergencies is especially concerning. Staff members are often unresponsive when contacted and have been observed continuing conversations with colleagues instead of addressing urgent situations. Additionally, basic hygiene standards are neglected; bathrooms frequently lack soap, and hand sanitizer dispensers are consistently empty, creating unsanitary conditions.Dr. Hammel, the principal, consistently avoids accountability and fails to follow through on responsibilities. Promised callbacks are rarely made. Overall, staff members treat students in a condescending manner, as though they are much younger, creating an environment that feels overly restrictive rather than supportive. Instead of preparing students for adulthood, the school fosters immaturity. The management of IEPs is also deeply flawed. Meetings lack clear explanations, and important accommodation documents are frequently misplaced. This disorganization has caused significant distress for my child and reflects a serious failure to meet students’ needs. This school has had a serious negative impact on my daughter’s mental health, with stress levels so high that she frequently feels close to passing out. The school store sold energy drinks to students, which directly contributed to my daughter experiencing a medical emergency that resulted in hospitalization. These ongoing issues reflect a troubling lack of concern for student well-being and safety.Parent Review5mo ago5 Reviews - Waccamaw Intermediate School

"Not a lot of children, it is largely retirees and second home owners. Alligators are everywhere and you’d have to keep a close eye on small children. Lots of wildlife in the area. "

"Not applicable because I am retired. However, there is no public transportation available, you need a car to get to stores, restaurants, doctor appointments, etc. Health care is difficult to access. Many physicians not accepting new patients, for those accepting new patients it may take 2-6 months for first appointment, specialists are scarce and many people go to MUSC in Charleston for specialists."

"I am retired and therefore don’t commute anywhere on a regular basis. All of the essential needs are available within a 30 mile radius. Traffic has steadily worsened each year due to increased development"

"I’m just visiting and first time here. The beach is beautiful and the litchfield inn is directly on the beach. Restaurants and bar, two pools. We saw hundreds of starfish, squid and stingray. Just wonderful."

"This area is perfect. It’s cozy and comfortable and very laid back. People are kind, friendly and helpful. It’s a very home town kind of feel with access to the best beaches in South Carolina. The sand are soft and fluffy and well taken care of with beautiful dunes and grasses. The inlets and piers are just as beautiful. But like anywhere else the mosquitoes are you worst enemy. "
