"It is extremely friendly to families, friends, and neighbors cross the board and has amazing restaurants, unique stores in pet friendly parks. We moved here five years ago and couldn’t be happier with that decision."
  • Trulia User
"Wayland offers the following events; Wayland parade, summer fest, community garden and high school sports games"
  • John
"Wayland seems to be a pet friendly town. I see people walking their dogs all the time. I don’t have one so I don’t look to see if the businesses or parks have water for them. "
  • Cowgirlglz
"Great small community, friendly people. Good local restaurants and stores. Great school system, and friendly neighborhood. "
  • Cowgirlglz

"brother in law lives here My mother in law heard this was a nice place to live and I would like to live here. It is close to my 2 jobs in Wayland. I also have a friend who lives in Moline. Sounds great and hope to get a double wide here."
  • Curtis J. H.
"We love living in the country. Nobody too close, so you can reach out and touch their house. Quiet, and peaceful all of the time. "
  • Elizabeth B.
"Summer fest, fall art hop, Christmas parade, movies at the library, Christmas parade, music in the park every week"
  • Babspoiled9

  • Sparkler8666
"Wayland is a great place to live if you like small town living near the big city. It's a short drive to Grand Rapids, and not too far from K-zoo, so if you want access to city life it is there, but your daily life is less stressful without all the crowding, crime and traffic. We have only lived here a few years, but enjoy so much the family friendly downtown activities in the Christmas Season. (Free horse drawn wagon rides! Come on, really? FREE?! That could never happen in the city.) And the way people gather and talk at the Wayland Expo, the Art Hop and other downtown events, makes the place seem warm and inviting. Then let's talk about the grocery store, Hardings, where they carry your bags out for you cheerfully and don't accept tips for doing it. There's just such a feeling of camaraderie and I love being part of it. I can see where if I was raised in this town I might even go to the high school sporting events just because it's another bonding event where the people hang out. :) Our particular neighborhood is just outside of town. Close enough that I could walk to the grocery store, but I'd have to cross the freeway to do it. And it has such a nice rural feel to the road and lovely mature trees but still a nice paved road. I love it!"
  • Sparkler8666
"If you like big city life then don't bother because this is small town life at its best. We feel very safe here, and letting our kids (9 and 15) ride their bikes downtown and to the park and to their friends houses, is a luxury that only a small town like this can afford you. It is friendly here but maybe the feeling of security hinges on the fact that the state police make their presence felt as their headquarters are on Main St, and there's city police as well. The community feels welcoming and friendly and there are many churches to choose from. If you're looking for a party town, this is not it. There are a couple of pizza places to choose from, a couple of bars, but nightlife is not the big draw here. The local grocery store is a friendly market where the bag"boys" carry your groceries out and load them in the car for you. A tiny and historic library, antique shop, coffee shop, flower shop, flea market store, adorable pet store, a strangely out of place Dollar General and the ice cream shop are the draws to downtown. But there's a dry cleaner and 24 hour fitness center off downtown too. Everything you really need is nearby and still there's excellent access to the freeway. Oh, and if you want a day at the lake there's Gun Lake nearby, Yankee Springs Recreational Area, and it's huge. Also, there's a new casino at the next exit... not our thing, but something you should know about."
