There are so many ways Claysburg-Kimmel Elementary could spend $5000. We are currently looking at putting some new technology in the library in the form of eReaders. Since ebooks are cheaper, and do not become worn from use, and since technology is becoming more prevalent today, this is definitely the direction we want to move with our students, however, the initial starting cost is quite an investment. We would like to make other technological improvements but again, this is a costly venture. With the federal and state budget cuts putting a financial burden on our school systems, it has become necessary to prioritize all our spending. Most of the time this means we need to spend all the working capital on the everyday expenses necessary to keep our school operational. There is little to no money left to expand to meet the growing needs of new or updated equipment. We also need to update our curriculum. Many of our books for our core subjects are several years old, however, new adoptions are considerable investments. Any funds would certainly help when trying to find enough money to purchase all the materials which support the textbooks for a new series of books.

I think the main reason there are drugs in this school is because it is so close to Bullscreek, that is where most of the drugs come from. And most of the problems can't all be blamed on the kids, it all starts with what they learn & see at home. Parents need to teach their children respect & kindness, not show them that fighting, drinking, & drugs are a normal way of life. My son is in 9th grade & has never had a problem with drugs or respecting the teachers, the only problems he has had is with bullies, and most of the bullies he has had to deal wtih were from Bullscreek. But overall CKHS is a good school, and the teachers do care about the kids here!!
