4/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageOverall my experience with Frederickson has been great! My daughter has gone here for her whole school career thus far (from kindergarten to now it being her last year here in 5th grade). All of her teachers have been incredibly friendly, helpful and have done a wonderful job in making my daughter really feel like a special part of this community of kids, teachers and staff. The staff here too are the best. Anytime my daughter has had any sort of issue the school counselor has been there for her and has done a great job with letting her know that if ever she needs any help she can always turn to the counselor there. The new principal seems like she’s going to be a perfect addition here too! Super sweet. The reason why I am giving a 3 star rating is because while the teachers and staff have been wonderful to work with and we’ve never had any sort of issue on that front … I don’t feel like my daughter has received the best overall education from this school. I don’t know if it’s because there’s been some sort of significant change in the guidelines of what’s to be taught nowadays or what but I for one know that my siblings and I by 5th grade were far more advanced In what we were learning by this time. My daughter is in 5th grade and has only been given homework one year in 2nd grade. I don’t think that’s right as I am a believer in it being incredibly important to take school home with you to continue practicing what you learn in order to better your chances in really retaining all of that info. Also she just now received her first writing report assignment in 5th grade and doesn’t know how to write a report at all! I was a master at this specific subject by 5th grade. And my daughter is a very bright student who’s been recommended for the highly gifted program not once by twice so I don’t think that it’s her specifically that’s struggling with the work… it’s more like what she is learning is behind. This disappoints me beyond measure as I am really concerned that middle school and high school is going to be a real big eye opener for us all. I really hope that it won’t be a huge struggle to transition from having it so easy in elementary school to being bombarded with homework in every subject and higher expectations being expected of her during her latter years in school. But I also hope that middle school and high school will not be just as lax either and I hope school requirements haven’t just sank into the ground for our kids and future.Parent Review4y ago9 Reviews - Liberty Middle School

"South hill is a very pleasant area to raise your family but the closer you are to downtown the worse it is. It is better to be up on the hill and the closer you are to Graham the better. "
