LMS is the best school! If you like music, this is definitely the place to be. LMS has Choir (Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced), Orchestra (B, I, A), and Band (B, I/A). The Drama program is really developed, and the teachers are super nice—they make rehearsals fun and help everyone perform their best. The school puts on amazing plays and productions that everyone loves to watch.There are lots of electives—more than most schools—so you can explore art, music, coding, languages, or other cool classes you might never have tried before. The TAG program is excellent for students who want extra challenges, and the special needs programs are very supportive, with teachers who understand and help every student succeed.Teachers are understanding and caring, and the administration is really friendly and approachable. There are around 300 kids in each grade, so it’s easy to meet new friends and get involved in lots of activities. Clubs, sports, music events, concerts, talent shows, and art exhibitions make every year exciting.Overall, LMS is a super fun, supportive, and creative school where you can explore your interests, try new things, make friends, and enjoy learning every single day. I would highly recommend this school.

As a parent of mixed-race children who co-parents in a community with very little diversity, I’ve learned that the community reflects the values and attitudes of its residents. Schools are primarily institutions that provide education, not places where children are parented by teachers. While it’s important for schools to safeguard children in their care, it’s crucial to distinguish between school-provided protection and parenting responsibilities. Teenage angst is a natural part of growing up, but not everyone is as understanding and accepting of the unique personalities and challenges that teenagers face as they navigate this phase of life. As a person of color, I’ve made it a priority to raise my children to be open-minded, accepting of diversity, self-advocates, critical thinkers, and engaged citizens. Lakeridge has been a very welcoming community and school, based on my children’s educational needs.

Just wanted to hop in and write a current review of Westridge based on the 2024-2025 school year so far. We love this school and if you're checking out schools you should add this one to your list! Learning: My kid came to this school only knowing how to read the Open sign at a restaurant and is now reading books to me at night. The progression of learning after one year has been incredible. My kid comes home asking if we can get books from the library that he read in school. The teachers put a lot of care into picking age-appropriate reading material. I appreciate the paper materials the teachers send home - it's lovely for him to have something new to read daily.Teaching: I can only speak to the Kindergarten, 1st Grade, and Specialty (STEM, Music, PE, etc), and with that said, we love the teachers. I've heard great things about the other grades too. Also special shout out to the Champions after-school program at Westridge. As a working parent, they have been so helpful and we really love the program and their current staff. Social-Emotional Support: Although we've only had a few needs in this area, whenever there have been arguments between kids at school, the teachers have been communicative about any issues. We've worked together with our kid and the teachers to re-iterate any lessons that need repeating. Special Education: I can't really speak to this since we haven't needed any services. There's a new all-abilities playground that is pretty special.Safety: The school entry system and access doors are generally safe. It's a one-story brick building from 1980 with updates to the entry and roof. The building's earthquake ratings are a lower risk than other schools in Portland, which was important to us. There are crossing guards during pick-up and drop-off. Also, the school environment is warm and inviting. I love the school projects and displays in the hallways. Family Engagement: The end-of-year Carnival is delightful. Thanks to the PTSO for bringing all the fun activities and the dunk tank. I love being part of this school's community. As a former Los Angeles resident and accustomed to a car commute, I appreciate how many parents and kids walk to school together. I enjoy getting to know other parents on the walk to school and It's a great group of kind, supportive parents. Sometimes a school is more than just the teaching staff -- it's all about who else is in the community. :)
