The lack of support for students with bullying is absolutely ridiculous. You cannot report something if it happened more that a month ago, they often refuse to get parents of the bully involved, the counselors are pretty good but don't always have the means to get students removed from harmful classrooms, administrators are AWFUL when it comes ro diverse students, sometimes attempting to out lgbt students to parents of other students to "make them more comfortable" around them. Huge racism issue here, white kids use the n-word all the time and call any non white students various slurs. Nothing is done about this except for one short slide in a school wide newsletter which basically said "guys please don't say the n word it's mean" and never mentioned it again. It's so bad that when people talk to the counselors about it, they basically act like it's normal for the students to call any Muslim students terrorists or something. They barely enforce anti bullying policies, yet if you dare to have you phone out for a second in the hallways, you best bet that is getting sent up to the office, or worse using the bathroom during 10/10? Gasp! Utterly blasphemous! Not to mention how awfully the kids treat staff, yet dont get told off by admins enough. The poor staff are spread thin by the trouble makers and don't have time to teach the rest of the class. Horrible bullying policies, Horrible school experience.

Good teachers and curriculum, terrible athletic director and department who only care about kids if they are good at sports.

DON'T SEND YOUR CHILD HERE! This school has a serious problem handling bullying. There's no follow through on the school's part in working with the bullies to change the behavior. If your child is unique or different in any way they will be targeted & traumatized repeatedly until their self-esteem is so shattered that they will need therapy. Teachers & staff don't hold bullies accountable for their actions. There are too many kids for the staff to effectively handle behavioral challenges. Bullies aren't taught kindness or compassion or to keep their horribly offensive opinions to their selves. While "weak," vulnerable kids slip through the cracks & get lost in chaos. Both of my kids were also taught a fixed mindset by bad teachers that thankfully retired & told that they have "terrible handwriting" but were never taught how to improve that skill. I've had to work with them to show them that handwriting is a skill that can be improved. There are good teachers that try their best but still don't do enough to prevent or deter bullying & the counselor(s) are spread too thin. My friend's kid was bullied so bad that they purposefully moved out of the district bc the middle school has an even worse reputation on handling bullying/harassment.Find a school with a smaller student body & a better track record on bullying.
