"It’s a 15 minute ride to the train station and about an hour to an hour and ten minutes to Manhattan by LIRR. With no traffic it’s about an hour and ten minutes to drive to the city. With traffic all bets are off. There is no shopping or schools within walking or biking distance, driving is a necessity. "
  • Leebeckernyc
"Pros: easy access to nature, state parks, and outdoor activities; not much traffic so kids can play ball in the street without much risk. Cons: far from town, so it’s a long bus ride to school, longer than normal ride to after school activities; most classmates will not live within walking or biking distance so cannot visit friends without being chauffeured. "
  • Leebeckernyc
"This island is accessible only by car or boat, there is no public transportation. To drive anywhere you must take the parkway, which is never crowded, but it’s 10-20 minutes in either direction to reach the mainland, even just to buy milk. "
  • Russ N.
"It isn’t cheap to live here. You need to make sure you understand the commute. The summers are incredible!"
