If I could give less than one star, I would. My experience with Southwest Middle School has been nothing short of frustrating, disappointing, and at times, infuriating.The biggest issue is the lack of consistent communication and accountability from some of the staff. When it comes to behavioral issues or drama, responses from certain teachers are immediate. But when parents reach out repeatedly about academics, missing assignments, or support — there’s silence. It’s disheartening to witness how quick some are to react to negative behavior, yet completely ignore students who need help or guidance.There is a serious lack of compassion and true concern for student development from several staff members. It often feels like the focus is on control and compliance, rather than growth and support. I’ve spoken to multiple parents who share similar frustrations, so I know my experience is not unique.That said, I do want to acknowledge a few educators who truly care: Spinks, Gregory, Baked, Sanders, Foggie, and Stokes. These individuals have shown kindness, professionalism, and a real commitment to helping students succeed. Unfortunately, their efforts are overshadowed by others who fail to meet even the basic expectations of teaching and communication.Southwest Middle School has a lot of work to do to restore trust with parents and create an environment that truly puts students first. Until then, I cannot recommend this school to anyone looking for a supportive and accountable educational experience for their child.

The google reviews they have some way of removing them all of them say 7 years ago. Parents if you are considering sending your black child here you should be mindful. The Vice Principal is very biased and could use some diversity awareness training … and dialogue training. She is very much aloof when interacting with African American parents versus Caucasian parents. My child did not have a teacher assigned on the first day of school and placed on the wrong bus route after going to the school in person to rectify the situation just for her to be very dismissive … no apology from the school or anything. And the principal will side with her behavior so no point isn’t talking to him and Administration thinks they are great so don’t even bother. I also had to play middle man to palisades and transportation because the school is saying they are being told not to contact transportation but transportation is saying they need to hear from the school for a bus pass. So I had to talk to both parties all week just ensure my child is placed on the right bus and was given more than one bus number. Parent teacher conference parents signs up for conference ..both parents are on teams 15 min early. No response from teacher. Parent contacts teacher about conference teacher has still yet to respond. The bus was late almost an hour there was no notification to the parents of a change in bus number and on the app the bus is on the middle of nowhere not moving and transportation and the school does not answer the phone. CMS do better … if you are considering this school for a lottery do not consider i am telling you … only pleasant people are in the front office … and the male 4th grade teacher.

The worst school my children have ever attended. The leadership at this school is atrocious, outside of a few teachers and staff. My children were miserable as they constantly complained about fights, favoritism, and a lack of support from the administration are just the issues on the surface; they run so much deeper, and it is masked by the location and name that gives you a false impression of it being a good school. I do want to share one bright spot as well as my sincere appreciation to one teacher who I heard is no longer there. First Sergeant Smith, who was part of the ROTC program, made a tremendous impact on my kids. It was clear that he cared about them and their future. He taught with a passion that I have never seen from any teacher my kids ever had; they would come home every day telling me about what they learned in his class and how he motivated them to be the best version of themselves. I hear that he is no longer teaching, and that is a shame because I wish there were more teachers like him.
