  • Karina Mendoza
"Super close to the freeway and honestly tucked away so hardly any traffic ever and I love it and would definitely recommend the area. The only downside is is sometimes the homeless population gets a little out of control and can be quite aggressive. They also dumpster dive very frequently, but for the most part, they are really nice and respectful."
  • Trulia User
"Great community for children and parents! Itโ€™s the best of both worlds living right of South Lamar. "
  • Trulia User
"I love living in a residential feeling neighborhood thatโ€™s still so close to downtown. We can walk to amazing food, bars, parks! "
  • Trulia User
"I love walking in our neighborhood with our dogs, saying hi to neighbors. Great to walk to restaurants as well. "
  • Trulia User
"Love this neighborhood. Close to everything and super beautiful. Really feels like the heart of the city is over here."
  • Trulia User
"Lovely neighborhood. Urban yet really homey still. There is some crime but thatโ€™s expected anywhere around here. "
  • Trulia User
"There is plenty of green space to walk your dog, and most people are good about cleaning up after their pets. Traffic isnโ€™t too heavy, so itโ€™s comfortable to walk with a dog on most sidewalks."
  • Trulia User
"There are a lot of well-maintained parks and green spaces for walking and playing with dogs. There arenโ€™t many fenced dog parks, but thereโ€™s enough room for play time on a longer leash!"
  • Anissa S.
"Work from home but neighborhood is centrally located and easily accessible to major high ways. There seems be less traffic moving south to north compared to traffic moving north to south on MoPac expressway and I-35"
  • Kathleen M.
"Nice quiet neighborhoods with wide streets, shady trees for walking a dog. Also close to lots of bars and restaurants "
  • Marissa B.
"Good access to public transportation; although I do not use it, it seems many others do! A little traffic-y but nothing abnormal to typical downtown Austin areas. "
  • Tori M.
"Very dog and family friendly. I love living at Bell south Lamar. There are many walkable restaurants and bars and my dog loves it. "
  • Eric O.
"Commute to downtown is 7-9 min. Commute to work is about 15-25 minutes. Itโ€™s about 12 min. to anywhere I would like to be."
  • Justin L.
"Trying to leave the area due to the homeless population and the lose and feel of a safe place. It used to be unique with the older homes but as of now they are all being torn down. Itโ€™s not the same "
  • Nathan S.
"Work from home. Uberโ€™s are easy downtown. Itโ€™s a good neighborhood for young professionals, but probably not families. "
  • Nicole.fikes
"Locally owned restaurants, coffee shops and retail stores. Eclectic feel. Great schools. Close to downtown but spots feel removed from the city. "
  • Deborah B.
"Friendly neighborhood. I donโ€™t have children so Iโ€™m not quite sure what the standards are. But the neighbors are great and look out for each other. "
  • Altemple1
"Feels like a residential neighborhood 2 blocks from restaurants, bars, theaters and the Greenbelt. I wish I could afford to buy. "
  • Josh
"have lived on South Lamar for going on 4 years. it's a great neighborhood lots of good restaurants and good groceries stores near by."
  • Donna B.
"Terrible. With no traffic my commute to downtown is about 10min. Naturally, I work during typical business hours which means my commute is about an hour. Traffic is terrible everywhere in this city. Itโ€™s pretty amazing. "
  • Alexander L. A.
"everyone around seems pretty chill and welcoming. the terrain is nice and pleasant for jogs and walks and theres at least 3 parks within walking distance"
  • Katelynnduncann
"close to downtown and very convenient pretty neighborhoods friendly people very high rent prices though "
  • Parisah T.
"Access to the greenbelt, Zilker Park, Town Lake, and so many of Austin's natural public spaces. Super close to downtown. For the most part, I feel safe and I like the relaxed vibe. "
  • Laura C.
"I haven't encountered any dog parks, but there are plenty of vets, pet stores, doggie day cares, and places to walk them!"
  • Solomon B.
"Dog owners would love it. Zilker is close, and there are a ton of people with dogs."
  • Ali W.
"There are dogs everywhere! Most restaurants and bars have patios and permit dogs on the premises. They even provide water bowls for you to use. The only negative I can think of was when my apartment complex did DNA testing on all the dogs in the complex. On the upside, they did it to try to get people to clean up after their pets."
  • Laura C.
"South Lamar is cool but established. We have great restaurants, fun bars, and cool shops, but we also have great schools unlike some of the trendier neighborhoods."
  • Solomon B.
"It's close to everything, and the people are cool and friendly. There's lots of stuff to do and great shopping as well."
  • Ali W.
"South Lamar has the feel of Austin and is just close enough to all the craziness without being in it every day. The neighborhood has everything you could possibly need. I have 4 grocery stores, 3 gyms, a Target, and countless restaurants, doctor's offices, and groomers within walking distance. Not to mention some closer-to-home nightlife."
  • Nicole B.
"There can be heavy traffic on SoLa, and often the lanes are closed."
  • Nicole B.
"There's a lot of traffic in the area."
  • Solomon B.
"It safe, and the people are pretty cool. Seems like there are events going on all the time. It's a big family community, and they watch out for each other."
  • Laura C.
"We're zoned for Zilker, one of the best elementary schools in AISD! And we can walk to most places we want to go: my son's preschool, the movie theater, restaurants, the coffee shop."
  • beachboynine
"This area is awesome. 78704 is the heart beat of South Austin. You are close to all the cool shopping on South Lamar & Congress. Easy access to Hwy 71/290 (Ben White Blvd - Loop 360), restaurants, Central Market, movie theaters, and the new Radio coffee house! It takes about 10 minutes to get downtown on a weekday morning work commute coming down Lamar to Barton Springs, and then South 1st (Guadalupe) into downtown. There you'll find Ladybird lake, the renown hike and bike trail, 6th Street, and all the rest of wonderful downtown Austin. Just take Lamar to downtown, Hwy 71 to the hill country (Fredericksburg ...), or just enjoy 78704 and the vibrancy yet relaxed atmosphere of a wonderful part of Austin! "
