Partially forested with Spruce and Aspen and large groves of Douglas Fir. Private access to four million acres of Public Lands right off the property. Good well water near draws. Borders Elk Refuge. All owner held mineral rights will convey. Winter access would require regular road maintenance. Public utilities are half a mile to a mile, but propane, wind or solar generators provide electricity as reliably as public utilities. The property is located in the foothills of the highest mountains in Montana - the Beartooth Mountain Range. Sheep Mountain Ranch is lush with trees (50%). There is probably $100K of timber on this land but it won't be allowed to be farmed due to the covenants. Tremendous mountain views from most parts of the ranch. You have private access to public land right off the property. Out here you feel you are alone in the world, yet you are only 15 miles west of Red Lodge (10 miles paved, 5 miles gravel county road and 0.9 miles private road). If you are in love with mountains and like to be close to a metropolitan area, this acreage is for you! Wildlife on the property includes moose, bear, elk, deer and many others. Build a log cabin, bring your cauldron and move in! So far we have five different owners on the 386 acres of Sheep Mountain Ranch. From Sheep Mountain you can see 5 mountain ranges: Pryor Mountains Crazy Mountains Snowie Mountains Beartooth (Absaroka) and Little Belt Mountains. Red Lodge has downhill skiing, but you can go cross country skiing right off your own property.

10/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI have had multiple children attend Red Lodge, and all of them have had wonderful and unique experiences here. One of my children thrived in the strong athletics program, another enjoyed the variety of CTE classes, mainly welding and Auto Shop, and they all have been able to challenge themselves with advanced coursework, including AP classes. Most of the teachers are highly qualified and deeply knowledgeable in their fields. From what I have seen, the few newer teachers receive excellent support from experienced staff, which helps maintain a high standard of education. While students naturally form different social groups, the small-school atmosphere ensures that most get along well, and serious issues are rare.Some older reviews were critical of the former principal, but since that principal’s retirement, the new leadership seems to have completely changed the atmosphere. The current principal is genuinely invested in making Red Lodge High School a positive, challenging, and supportive learning environment and that is evident by the changes he has implemented.The school also offers a strong special education program. The special education teacher and especially the paraprofessionals go above and beyond to support all students, not just those in the program. They keep a close eye on grades and missing assignments and work with students to get them back on track before issues escalate. This is especially helpful for students who participate in many sports and miss school days. They get assistance catching up before there is even a problem. The only drawback I’ve observed is the degree of student apathy, which seems to have become more common since Covid. While the school provides every opportunity for success, not all students take advantage of them. In my opinion, this is more of a broader parenting and societal challenge than a reflection on the school itself.Overall, Red Lodge has given my children excellent opportunities to learn, grow, and pursue their interests, and I feel confident recommending it to other families.Parent Review9mo ago
