It is urban legend that this home was once owned by President Martin Van Buren's family, this historical federalist-style townhouse is on the market for the first time in 53 years. Located on a beautiful block in Murray Hill, this home has the distinction of sharing the courtyard and entrance with the house next door. The four story, 20 foot wide house is 3,680 square feet and has five bedrooms, four full baths and two half baths along with a garden and laundry room/storage area downstairs. The ground floor features a powder room, the kitchen with a separate service entrance, a dining room with a fireplace and bay window that adjoins the fully heated and air conditioned sunroom. Up the circular staircase to the parlor floor. The living room faces the front of the house and features high ceilings, three large windows, built ins and a fireplace. Facing the back of the house is a wood paneled library with a bay window, fireplace and coffered ceiling. There is a wet bar and powder room discreetly off the library. The library opens to the terrace, which runs along the back of the house and overlooks the garden. The second floor has two large bedrooms with en-suite baths. This floor could easily be the master suite, with one bedroom and sitting room. The third floor is currently configured as a two bedroom, each with a full bath and an office in between that also features a fireplace. All the rooms are spacious and they could easily be converted into three bedrooms.
