Parents: Do NOT assume every meeting with this school administration is being handled fairly or professionally just because it happens behind closed doors. Many students leave those offices feeling intimidated, misrepresented, emotionally distressed, or afraid to speak up. Families often do not realize how important documentation becomes until it is too late. Here’s what every parent and student should know: • Keep a paper trail (Emails, Phone Calls, Copies of Documents) • Save emails and screenshots • Write down dates, times, witnesses, and exact statements • Follow up after meetings with an email summary • Ask for policies or disciplinary decisions in writing • Do not rely solely on verbal conversations Too many important conversations happen privately where there is no independent record of what was actually said. That is why documentation matters. The reality is that people become comfortable saying things behind closed doors that they would never put into writing or say publicly. Comments or tones that can be rude, dismissive, intimidating, manipulative, or inappropriate because there is an assumption that nothing will be documented and nobody will be held accountable afterward. Emotional reactions from students or parents may later be used against them as justification or defense. That is why it is so important to remain calm, composed, and focused on documentation and written follow-ups. Accountability in writing creates a record that cannot easily be denied or changed later. It is also important to document conversations even when they seem friendly or respectful. Many families assume there is no need to follow up if someone sounds nice or professional, but maintaining a consistent paper trail is extremely important regardless of tone. Parents and students should also understand how quickly narratives can form once a student is labeled as “difficult,” “emotional,” or “problematic.” Future situations may begin to be interpreted through that lens regardless of context. A clear written history can help protect students and families from misunderstandings or one-sided versions of events. Colorado is a one-party consent state. Individuals may legally record conversations they are part of. Families should educate themselves on their rights, district procedures, state and federal laws. Coyote Ridge is a great school with a strong sense of community. It has that smaller, close-knit feel where everyone truly cares about the students and their success. The teachers and staff are supportive, engaged, and go above and beyond to create a positive learning environment. We’ve had such a great experience here and feel lucky to be part of this community.I especially want to recognize Mrs. Lussier in 1st grade. She is truly one of the most amazing teachers we’ve had for our child. She made learning so fun and engaging, and we saw so much growth during our time in her classroom.The little facts and tidbits our child came home sharing each day, the way she challenged her academically, and the genuine care she showed all made such a lasting impact. Mrs. Lussier creates an environment where students feel supported, confident, and excited to learn.She is an incredible teacher and such a valuable part of Coyote Ridge. There really aren’t many teachers like Mrs. Lussier.
