Former student of this school, here's what you need to know.Be aware that students get into fights in the beginning of the school year, but it wears off pretty fast. Students are known to make fun of students who don't "fit in", based on the way they talk, look, and dress.School bathrooms can be very dangerous, but it can vary. It's usually empty or closed out.Teachers are known to be really nice with kids, especially some teachers can be "hip with the kids". They might've been viewed as cringe by the students but they are trying their best to keep the classroom experience engaging, which is great.The school has promoted anti-bullying services in presentations. But it's pretty unsurprising that it doesn't work out very well.In summary, this is about an average Middle School. Kids in town say Lee is better than Douglass.

The school provided me an excellent foundation in my collegiate endeavors. I had a great experience and had a great relationship with staff and administration. I love how this school comes from a long line of tradition. During my time there the staff really cared and help students succeed in whatever they wanted to do.

While I certainly believe this to be a better school in the WJUSD, I also believe this school suffers from the same affliction most schools do - the inability to translate knowledge into practical application. Where is the project-based learning? What frustrates me is that the homework that my child is doing seems to be the same thing he's been doing for the past 2 years. Frankly, he gets bored and lacks the academic challenge to get out of his comfort zone. Apparently, that falls on the parents - and yes, that's an indictment on the current scholastic paradigm. It's evident that the only thing the school - and possibly parents - cares about are scores so they can boost their rating on these websites. That's fine if you want your child on the fast track to middle management. But it's not building tomorrow's leaders nor its innovators.Do better. Be better.
