I don’t normally write reviews but felt compelled to do so after the experience with Riverside elementary in West Jordan and hope this reaches parents.My kids are on a permit for Spanish DLI, so this was our only option at the time. The administration at this school are deficient, not engaged and definitely not involved compared to the other district we moved from. Riverside also holds a ‘dad/father figures make a difference’’ luncheon every year for 17 years. Zero concern for alternate families and even mothers do not get a similar luncheon. With suggesting a ‘donut with a grown up’ like the other schools we have attended, the PTA was unwilling to budge. Children cry and are visibly upset when they do not have a dad at this luncheon. The PTA is very cliquey, and hold meetings at 9am on a Tuesday making it difficult for working parents to attend. They also force the pledge of allegiance at the beginning of the meeting which feels strange and unlike any other school in any district we have attended. They work on LDS church lessons during their PTA meetings, and many have been in the PTA for decades plus and are unwilling to move to more inclusive ways of helping the students and parents. The principals do not stand up for the students and what they need, and do not care. It was an awful experience at this school and I’m so glad I moved my children to an alternate DLI program in the district.
