About this House

Cottage Description 2026

Main Floor: Just (Recently) remodeled studio cottage, with new carpet, tile, and paint. The main room is 16 x 16 ft. with a large sliding glass door opening onto a large, private and sunny redwood deck, 18 x 14 ft. with mature tree growing through it.

Kitchen: Remodeled kitchen includes granite counter top and granite coffee bar, modern sink, full sized refrigerator, microwave, gas range with 4 burner stove top & oven, new dishwasher, and disposal.

Bathroom: Remodeled bathroom has long & deep vintage claw foot tub with shower, glass decorative tiles, a glass vessel sink, cabinet, shelves, and mirrored cabinet, plus a brand-new tile floor.

Storage: One small closet on cottage main floor, with additional storage available under the parking deck (especially good for long items such as kayaks, surfboards, etc.) and in the upstairs detached optional "bonus room."

Second Story includes private parking deck, washer/dryer, and separate optional "bonus room" only accessible through garage which is on top of the cottage (we are on a hill). Parking deck with one dedicated space for tenant. Inside the second story you will find your own laundry area with private washer and dryer. Unit is cable and Internet ready.

The cottage has two stories. But the two floors are not connected via an interior staircase. The Living space as described and large seated deck are on the lower floor. Away from the street. To get to the laundry room you must walk from cottage front door up the outside concrete walkway to the parking deck where your car would be. Then open the garage door. (This space was once a garage but no longer used for parking cars.) Laundry area is on your left. Private for you and faces Mt. Tam. Rest of actual garage area is shared storage with landlord. Note: Landlord rarely needs to get to storage there (less than once a month) and always texts in advance.

Atmosphere: Quiet, private, nurturing. Feel free to plant flowers or vegetables in the garden or on your deck. Your neighbors are squirrels, birds and deer. A large rose garden separates the main house from the cottage. Close to hiking and mountain biking trails just out the door and up or down the hill. The town of Fairfax can be reached by car in two minutes, or about half an hour walk. Fairfax boasts many restaurants, bars, and music venues, an outdoor Farmer's Market, and an upscale organic market, plus a movie theater with Dolby Sound, reclining lounge chairs, wine, beer and great popcorn. You are about half an hour from many beaches and coves along the California coastline which has kayaking, surfing, oysters, and inns, and about 40 minutes from the Wine Country areas of Napa and Sonoma. Commute time to San Francisco is 45-60 minutes depending on traffic.

Are you the right tenant for our space? We hope so. We value our privacy and are respectful of yours. Many tenants have lived here happily for 3, 5, even 10 years - it is that nurturing and special. Best suited for one person, but several couples have enjoyed it as well. No drinking, no smoking property. We are on property so you might see us outside working in our rose garden, but we are quiet and drama free. We are looking for the right tenant (also drama free).

Pets: We are pet friendly landlords. Cats are fine or small (mostly indoor) dog.

Rent: For the cottage living space ONLY including 1 space on parking deck and private laundry area is $2450.

Tenant pays PG&E and garbage. Water is included. Unit is cable and internet ready.

Note this is residential/home office space only. Available August 1. Six months lease to start. Willing to consider shorter term or longer rental, but may include more deposit.

Water included. Renter pays PG&E, Garbage. It is Internet ready with either Fiber from AT&T or Cable from Comcast
