Smithville Middle School is an outstanding place for students to learn and grow. The staff truly care about each student and go above and beyond to build relationships, creating a supportive environment where kids feel valued and encouraged. Academically, the school maintains strong performance and focuses on meaningful learning that prepares students for success in high school and beyond.While the physical building is slightly outdated, it is incredibly well-maintained and clean. It’s clear the district takes pride in the facility, as they continue to make improvements and upgrades to bring the space up to current standards. These ongoing renovations ensure that the learning environment remains functional and fresh for the students.What really sets Smithville Middle School apart is the wide range of opportunities available to students—from extracurricular activities to leadership experiences—allowing every child to find their place and get involved. The culture of kindness is evident throughout the building, with students and staff treating one another with respect and pride. It’s a school where community matters, and it shows every day.

This school didn’t actually try for me. When I struggled they do to they way I think they pushed their ways of teaching on me more. They didn’t try anything different most of the classmates I went with could agree with me. There were a few rude teachers, and if I ever tried to explain myself they wouldn’t listen to my reason. There is also a huge drug problem across the whole town even in the learning environments.

My child has attended Horizon Elementary since Kindergarten and he is now in third grade. I have nothing but great things to say about the school, the teachers, and the students. The staff is very personable and the teachers actually care about their students succeeding, the school is very clean and it looks newer, and the students there are kind. My child struggled with reading and a few other things so the school has helped accommodate him and he is always making progress. The school goes above and beyond for my child and I am seeing the improvement every day. The teachers communicate with me and make sure to keep me involved. My son is doing great academically and I know it is because of the school and just how much the teachers truly care. Again, I have nothing but great things to say about Horizon Elementary School and Smithville School District!
