Stay away. If you have the choice between Thoreau and Jackson, pick Thoreau. Luther Jackson blatantly discriminates against children in the special education program. Look at the percentage of students suspended with disabilities vs without. The administration blatantly violates federal law. Stay away.

My child attends pre-k at Surry Elementary School. Her teacher is experienced, patient, and effective. She has 20 years of experience and my daughter has learned to read in about 6 months. The music and PE teachers are positive too. Out front every morning is the principle, welcoming students in. The staff takes each child by the hand in the morning carline and leads them in for their temperature check. They are friendly and welcoming. Every child receives breakfast and lunch daily for free. During the remote learning phase, they delivered meals to our home twice a week. We are pleased with our daughter's growth and learning in her time at Surry Elementary.
