Before I transferred our son to Mayo Elementary, I talked to different community members about the school: retired teachers, librarians, family, and longtime area residents. The picture that emerged was what every parent looks for in a small school: a school that is better than the demographics suggest it should be, teachers and staff who love their jobs and their kids, and low turn over because of that. Our son is smart, headstrong, outspoken, and fidgety... All of which make him a challenge in a classroom setting. He will be entering his fourth year at Mayo Elementary this fall, and our experience there has exceeded our expectations. The principals, teachers, staff, and district consultants have communicated and worked with us to help focus our son's behavior and keep him challenged academically without breaking his spirit or wearing him down.

Love this small town involved school! They really get behind all the students and push them to be their best.

Unfortunately the majority of the current faculty doesn't even seem to like kids. They are not engaged with the kids. This is sad going from awesome elementary school teachers to these teachers. The district really needs to review the parent surveys that were done in early 2015 as this was a common problem reported.
