Trona is an unincorporated community in San Bernardino County, in the State of California of the USA. Trona is approximately 170 miles (274 km) Northeast of Los Angeles. Trona has an arid climate with hot summers & cool winters. Average January temperatures range from 32.9 °F (0.5 °C) to 58.2 °F (14.6 °C). Average July temperatures a minimum of 73.3 °F (22.9 °C) & top out at about 105.5 °F (40.8 °C). There is a Working Trona Mineral Mining Company. The city was Named after the Mineral Named Trona. Trona also has & serves as the headquarters- base of operations for the Trona Railway, a short-line railroad. Trona Joint Unified School District operates two schools: Trona Elementary School and Trona High School. There is no junior high or middle school; instead, the high school houses 7th and 8th grades in addition to the traditional 9th through 12th grades. Course offerings at Trona High are supplemented by online classes offered by California State University, Dominguez Hills and Cerro Coso Community College in Ridgecrest, California. Schools include Trona High School and Trona Elementary School. There are Shops & Restaurants in town- nearby. The town takes its name from the mineral Trona, that is abundant in the lakebed. Several Hollywood Movies such As “Star Trek V: The Final Frontier" & "Planet of the Apes" have been filmed around the Trona Pinnacles & surrounding desert areas. 2/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageTrona Joint Unified has a major leadership issue from the superintendent to the two principals. They are completely disconnected with the students, teachers, and support staff. Parents and students do not feel that the leadership or teachers have the best interest at heart when it comes to the students they serve. Only if Special education student parents knew their rights and was aware of the schools, especially the high school do NOT follow the students IEPs; parents should ask for data to support whether their students have actually met the students goals, as there is none and the evidence that they are tracking the service minutes is non-existent. How about that they had ONLY 2 paraprofessionals to push in to provide service minutes to Sped Students, but the district removed one of those paraprofessionals to work on the elementary side and NEVER replaced that para on the high school side. High school is supposed to have 2 Sped teachers, but only has 2 and the one case manager has more students on their caseload that legally allowed unless appropriate paperwork was filled out and approved by CDE... has that happened. Do not get me started on how the current counselor is worthless, not knowledgeable, and has a horrible rapport with students and staff. County of San Bernadino needs to step in, do a audit, Release most who work there, and fix what is broken.Other Review1y ago
