My son flourished at this school. We moved from Northern Virginia where schools are very competitive. I was extremely impressed with the forward thinking of the teachers and interactive use of classrooms and the outdoors as well as often cross-teaching amongst subjects to help the children put skills to use. Science and Math classes are often integrated as well as History and English classes. My son made some amazing friends and adored all of his teachers. The principal is also very impressive and her commitment to the kids and the school is unparalleled. Very happy my son was fortunate enough to attend Crozet Elementary.

The teachers and staff do virtually nothing about bullying and physical violence. There are posters about fighting against racism, but there doesn't seem to be any real action against it. In addition, there just as many bad teachers as there are good ones. Some teachers do not even teach at all.

In my experience, this school is detrimental to college-bound students. Even though the student body is large, all the teachers are local and nepotism is rampant. It is quite a small-town game. The very limited awards and recognitions available at this school go to teachers' children and teachers' friends' children. As do the grades. They do not even try to hide it. Students need to be extremely careful when choosing recommenders for college, as teachers are not always forthright about their intentions. There were some glimmers of hope with the current principal that this could change, but it has not. It is very much a place where some kids matter and most do not.
