Description
Charming one-story, two-bedroom furnished home with a separate work/sleep studio, located on one acre in the Woodstock hamlet of Shady, New York. This is an ideal setting for anyone looking for a quiet space in the woods to work, but also wants to be close to all that Woodstock and the Hudson River Valley have to offer. We rent month-to-month.
The main bedroom has a full bed and walk-in closet. There's a twin bed and closet in the second bedroom, to sleep three total in the main house. The second bedroom makes a great home office with daybed. The bathroom has a clawfoot tub and separate shower.
We also have a detached writing studio just steps from the house with a large antique desk and a futon lounger that flattens to a twin.
The kitchen has plenty of counter space for cooking, the dishwasher is a Miele, and our dining table is a converted drafting table, so it has stools for seating instead of chairs. If this is an issue for a longterm renter we can discuss swapping in a normal table.
This is a true country home, so you'll spot deer and many birds, and possibly even the occasional bear. We've got a fire pit, a hammock, and plenty of outdoor chairs for lawn gatherings, but this is not a party house. Please move along if that's what you're looking for. We find that our home is best suited for an individual, or a couple with a kid, or a couple that each needs a separate, private working space.
NYC is a two hour drive, and you can also park and ride from the Rhinecliff Amtrak. The station is a little under forty minutes away. The Trailways bus will drop you off right at our road if you're coming up from the city, but for the trip down, pickup is in Woodstock.
The homeowners are located twenty minutes away in Kingston, so one of us can be there quick should any issues arise during your stay. I'm happy to do video walkthroughs for a more detailed look at the space.

Due to local ordinances we can only rent for one-month periods. If someone is renting for one month only, owners will pay all utilities. For longer stays, we ask that the renter cover electric (we will continue to cover internet, propane, and snow plowing the driveway in winter).
For a one month rental the security deposit is $500, but for longer stays we require a deposit of one month's rent.
Please note that there is no garbage pickup, so the owners will be by once a week to collect garbage and recycling from the shed to take to the transfer station. We'd make sure to arrange a time that's convenient for you, with no unannounced arrivals.
This is a no smoking home.
The house is well insulated and heated and cooled via mini-splits.
The house is over 100 years old and therefore has some quirks but nothing major; e.g. sometimes you need to run hot water in the sink before it kicks in through the shower. There's also a dehumidifier that requires emptying every few days in the studio, but only in the warmer/rainier seasons.
We use a boilerplate sublet agreement that we can tweak for any specific needs.
