As a parent of a child in kindergarten I can say that his teacher and the administration should be reviewed. In May 2022 with three weeks left of school I was told my child will be retained for the next school year. I was never invited to a conversation of my child’s progress prior to this notice. There were no parent/teacher conferences through out the year. When I discussed these concerns with the principal I was told parents are not required to be invited to these discussions. I was told my child may have a learning disability but not provided testing. The following year we left the district to attend Lake County schools. On my child’s 2nd week repeating kindergarten due to his status of retention from Wildwood Elementary I was told my child should not have been retained and would be immediately moved to the first grade.

As a parent, you want to know that when you drop your child off at school each day, they are safe and in a positive, supportive environment.I was shocked to learn that the school does not allow K-9 units to search the campus at all. There are drugs making their way through the school system, yet the administration will not permit K-9 searches to help identify those responsible. Why? In my opinion, the school seems more concerned about protecting its image than ensuring the safety of its students.Bullying is another serious concern. My child is not overweight but is developing earlier than some of their peers. Other students repeatedly teased and tormented my child, attempting to damage their self-esteem. No child should have to endure that at school.There is also a significant time commitment required of parents. Because there is no school bus system unless you are willing to pay thousands of dollars per year, parents are responsible for daily drop-off and pick-up. In addition, families are expected to volunteer 20–25 hours at the school each year. When you factor in the daily driving, the cost of gas, and the required volunteer hours, the demands placed on parents become substantial.
