This school is absolutely horrible! If I could give zero stars I would, the principals are absolutely awful even with one being "principle of the year" I'm not even sure how she gained this award to be honest. And im not even sure what the assistant principle does or why shes even there, shes useless. THEY ARE NOT FOR THE STUDENTS! They allowed my child to be bullied but was over looked cause the principle was friends with the other parent. Another was publicly embarrassed in the office infront of other staff by the principle cause my baby had an accident but bc my child's story didnt match the teacher my child was called a liar, property was thrown away after no warning, no call home, or not given back with a warning. For some they can't even get your kids on the right transportation after sending a note and calling to make sure they got the note... that was the 2nd time and that was still my child's fault. To top it off the principle almost hit my vehicle due to her speeding in the car line one morning then made a joke of it. We keep hoping that they will get rid of these principles and things get better but hopes lost. We may finish out the year but are strongly considering a transfer to city schools at this point.

Teachers care about the students and go beyond the call of duty to maintain a safe learning environment.

North Surry, for me, felt like a "make it your own" experience. IF, and I do mean IF, you incentivize yourself, you'll be put through exceptional courses. I wanted to take AP classes, so I met with teachers, other students, and the principle in order to try to get into them. Not to mention how awesome the PLTW (engineering) courses were. They let me in, and I was impressed with the curriculums. It is easy, however, to coast through this school. Take the easy classes, make C's, and graduate feeling like North Surry doesn't care about your education. That simply is not true. In my time there I felt like the faculty cared about me and my mental health. The students were like any other high school, I presume. I'm a 2015 graduate and I'm proud of the fact that I attended. I know kids that attended Governor's School, lawyers, business owners, and other professionals that I went to school with. I think the bad reviews are from lazy students that wanted the faculty to take the initiative for them.

The principal, Dr. White, has been horrible to our child and honestly the worst teacher or principal I have met. Do not send your child here.
