I survived my employment at Bastrop High School by pulling the plug after a few months. Drugs run rampant at the school as well as out of control students. No support from administrators and a very unpleasant environment all together. The students run the show. Each one is given a tablet for school work but nearly all of the students spend the majority of the classroom time watching videos and playing games online. Even after finding out the name of the website and the URL, the administrators didn’t care to pursue the info I gave them. The last straw was when I was told that I had to take my lunch at 10:45 a.m. rather than my usual noon time break. I quickly typed up my letter of resignation, finished out the day, signed out for good and returned the equipment. Best day ever!

Bastrop middle school is a JOKE. The principal and leadership are all high school gossips who pit teachers against each other. Nepotism runs high here. I do feel bad for the teachers and when I give my concerns they seem to care but their hands are tied because they are doing what they are told. They are expected to spend alll their free time outside of work to work on classroom plans without help from other roles. They have toooo many kids in one classroom and they just add more and more when a teacher is out sick instead of getting substitutes. My child has a learning disability and they are trying to make everyone take high level classes in a desperate attempt to make their numbers look better. More and more children are falling behind and suffering due to the corners cut.

Concerns about my child’s safety wasn’t taken seriously by administration. Issues were dismissed and there’s lack of support, empathy and understanding. Kids are just a number. I was also on social media and the is school didn’t have good reviews on there either. They should have cameras in all classrooms and not let so many PTA members volunteer just because they joined.
